I have a relatively new(<1yr) trip axle trailor. Do not use it much expect to pull the boat to and from the dealer for service. All the lights worked in the past and i have been using the same truck and connection b/t truck and trailer since the begining.

This week, i hook up and dont have any running lights ( no reds at the rear and no yellows on the sides)..The blinkers work and the brake lights work when brake applied.

Anybody have any advise or an idea on where to begin looking for the problem? Pulling w/ an 06 Suburban 2500. Id really like to fix this on my own.

Thanks in advance!

So I have a truck with 75,000 miles and the transmission shot and the truck is out of warranty. I am not thrilled to say the least. Anyway, I know nothing about transmissions, but it looks like they want $1800-$2000 to rebuild it. My question is, how reliable are rebuilt transmissions typically, assuming that the job is done right?

I am also planning to get a new truck within the next 2 years so may just pull the trigger now.

Thanks,
GREAT tow vehicle (towed my Bertram 25 from Cape Cod to the Keys no sweat) with new tires in great shape, under 80,000 miles and in VERY good condition (almost excellent). I just don't need the truck anymore. Stored in Ft. Lauderdale, under KBB at $19,500/ORBO...

About 5000 miles ago, I did some routine maint. on my 2000 Jeep Cherokee. This included a flush/fill of the transmission (AW4 automatic), drain/fill of the transfer case (NP231), replace the spark plugs and replaced the serpentine belt. Both the AW4 and NP231 require the use of Dexron III fluid and since I know that the AW4 does not react well to synthetic fluid, I chose Valvoline Dex/Merc fluid.

I immediately noticed an approx. 3 mpg drop in my overall mileage after performing the above maintenance. Out of the four things that changed, I am most suspect of the trans fluid as I have never had any trouble with NGK plugs and a belt is a belt.

So, I did some addl. research and found a TSB that states only Dexron III with a certification number (GM certification number I assume) should be used. So, I looked on the Valvoline bottles and could find no reference to a certification number...which based on what I read should begin with a "D". I also found reference to where others have experienced the same drop in mileage and draining and refilling with a certified fluid brought back the lost mpgs.

I have been searching the local parts stores for a Dexron III fluid with the certification number but have yet to find anything. With that in mind, I was hoping some of your trans fluid experts could shed some light on this for me and let me know what fluids currently hold that certification?

Thanks.

I have a 97 Expedition as my primary tow vehicle. It has 170k miles on it and is running strong...I am curious as to how many miles I should expect out of the Tansmission. Mostly I travel flat roads and tow 7500 Pounds about 500 miles a year...I know this is very subjective, but am interested in first hand expieriences.

We're buying a boat/trailer in Virginia. Does the law require brakes on all axles or just one?

Do you think that a v-8 4Runner with full tow package that's rated for 7000# should be able to handle a guesstimated 5500# OK? (24' boat)

Does a boat on a bunk trailer ride a little lower to the ground than a roller trailer?

My tandem axle trailer wears out tires around 5,000 miles. It has torsion axles. I was going to see about having the alignment checked.

the shop I contacted said they wanted the trailer without the boat on it. I would think that you would need the weight on the trailer to check it as the torsion arm moves with weight and might not be a parallel movement when weight is applied.
Anybody ever have this done?
Rented a pickup, and took my boat out of the water for the season without any problems. I towed it about 5 miles and parked it in the driveway it will sit for the winter. Then I see this huge crack at the base of the winch mount. Not sure if it happened from me cranking the last foot of boat up the bunks or from the drive. I had the straps on the back, and those are what was probably holding the boat from ripping off the rest of it.

Is this common, I obviously will look to replace it in the spring with a more robust part that has additional support.

Curious if this happens often and what do you suspect was the cause. This is only the second time I used the trailer since I got the boat in the Spring.(the boat was trailerred before but only had 90hours on it and boat/trailer are 2005)

Thinking: 2008-2009 Tahoe, 2007-2009 Chevy 1500 crew cab, or 2006-2008 F150.....also love the looks of the new Tacoma crew cabs...understand they are bigger than used to be, but might have to check it out.
