New to Stuart FL, what should I fish for this time of yr?!

Hello, I am new to the fishing scene in Stuart Fl and was wondering if anyone could help to put me on the fish. I will be docked right by St Lucie inlet in the marriot marina, and will be fishing on a friends new boat. I will be in Stuart from 12-10-2009 to 12-17-2009.

Problem is I have never really fished this area and was wondering if anyone could point me in the right direction. I wouldn't really even know where to start. I would probably try to get some live bait in the well, and try a few different spots. Maybe hit some reefs/bottom structure, then maybe push offshore a bit more to look for something a bit bigger. Would I have luck if I ran kite rods with live bait for sails? Should I sit over a reef and chum while sending some live baits out into the slick while sending bait chunks freelined down into the slick? Any idea how deep or where would be a good place to start?

I will be fishing from a 38' express and will have outriggers, etc., so trolling is fine, I just didn't want to spend my whole day trolling around (which I am told is the preferred method) if possible. I am also buying some maps (segulls and hotspots) to look over before I am standing over the GPS.

I may even consider hiring a captain for the first day just to show us the lay of the land. Anyone have any good local charter capts?

Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Okay we're going to be in Orlando for the Thanksgiving week. Not sure I have the stomach to spend 5 straight days in the parks. Considering driving to the East coast for one of those days. Would like to lounge around and maybe surf fish. Which beach should we hit from Orlando for a quiet day of fishing and letting the kids splash around? Cocoa beach?
Also, what species should I expect to fish for, and what techniques should I use for a little surf fishing in that area? Obviously some bigger pullage is always nice. My boy is 6, and anything that bites a hook pleases him, but he really wants to catch a shark....:trout:
Ps: I have some 10' surf rods and spinning gear, plus a variety of lures hooks and weights. I have surf fished before, but never in Florida.

I will be taking my family to Orlando this Summer (July or August) for vacation. I have two boys (ages 11 and 13) that love to fish. I was planning on taking them for a day or two of saltwater charter fishing while staying in Orlando. It appears that Mosquito Lagoon or the Cocoa Beach area might be the best bets. Any suggestions for a good charter captain? Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Planning a trip to the Florida Keys for February school vacation and was looking for some recommendations on lodging. It’s for the family (wife, 13 yr. old son, 15 yr. old daughter) and I’d like something that’s very nice so the whole family can enjoy the beach, hanging at the resort, etc. And of course, I can get in some fishing. Looking at Hawks Key, and the Moorings in Islamorada. Any recommendations?

after attending these meetings , it seems that the only way these ammendments are going to be challenged is in federal courts...these guys are set on closing bottom fishing for 35 years and have tracking devices on boats and not even allow transit in the closed areas, if you don't believe me look here , this is listed from their website:

http://www.safmc.net/Portals/6/Newsl...ll09Update.pdf

• Establish a limited, designated snapper grouper fi shing zone

(or zones) between 28 degrees N (approx. Stuart, FL) and 33 degrees

N (Cape Romaine, SC) within the South Atlantic EEZ. Allocate a

portion of the total ACL (79,000 lbs.) as non-directed removals, i.e.,

bycatch mortality. After subtracting the allotment for areas north and

south of the fi shing zone(s), divide the remaining ACL among commercial,

recreational, and for-hire sectors within the fi shing zone(s).

Fishing within the permitted zone(s) would require tracking and accountability

measures including Vessel Monitoring Systems for all sectors,

reporting requirements, video monitoring and other requirements.

• Alternatives to allow transit through closed areas;

• Alternatives for requiring the use of circle hooks;

• Alternatives to establish a red snapper monitoring program,

including both fi shery-dependent (utilizing for-hire sector) and

fi shery-independent (research vessels).

the only agency to help us fight this is the fra....its only $25 to join. you can give more if you want. think about it, is your right to fish worth $25 dollars. Join the FRA. write your federal officials: ive listed their names and address already on the forum. get involved. this is serious.
