There have been terrible hurricanes before we even started recording this stuff. FL had the one that took down the railroad, up North ther was one in the 1920's and Carol in 54 Andrew, Hugo etc, etc didn't these idiots watch Forrest Gump?

Then they blame the cold winters in the same thing and there are old pictures I can find of Niagra Falls frozen and even cars in the Harlem River and Hudson River in NY. A lack of storms would be not normal.

PM Gaston Brown must be some relation to Gov Brown of California. They both blame things on climate change. He's probably trying to redirect blame from the people who might otherwise say that they should have encouraged more sound construction of homes.

Irregardless, I hope they recover quickly.

The same scientists say drinking fluoride water is good for you, GMO foods are safe and Mercury filled flu shots will keep you from getting sick.

"Scientists" say the severity of these storms is due to Climate Change?

Jennifer Lawrence says the severity of these storms is due to Mother Nature punishing Trump voters.....?

I'm gonna go with her because she has big boobs.

Personally I'm not a scientist so I couldn't tell you, but neither are our leaders and politicians. The statistics seem pretty high and I'm sure that most scientist are accurate in their data.

My dad used to say: Science has given us cell phones, put men on the moon and rovers on mars, but politics and greed is what set path for the dark ages so long ago.

I'm more of a science man myself and certainly don't trust anyone in Washington getting million dollar contributions from oil, fossil fuel and tobacco companies.
Go ahead my financial contributors dump all the pollution you want in the atmosphere. I'll just tell my constituents that global warming isn't real..

100% bullshit.

That beats your 97%

I think there is something to it, for years and years we treated the atmosphere and our oceans like toilets. We have backed off considerably on that and it's going to take a long time to see the results. If you don't believe this shit ....fine, tell it to Irma, you can spit in her "eye" while you're at it.

Rhetorical but, hurricanes existed long before the automobile and the industrial age. Betting they'll still blow ashore long after we're gone.

So we have no one to blame but ourselves for Irma? This planet has existed for billions of years and gone through multiple catastrophic climate changing events, but human industrialism over the last 100 or so years (a mere blip in time) is now spawning hurricanes? Lol. How does that kool-aid taste?

That's interesting considering both of those things mentioned came from technologies developed for political purposes, the military.

There has never been a moment where the pursuit of science wasn't ultimately motivitated and facilitated by the desire for power, profit or political gain.

Yeah I guess the 1900 Galveston hurricane was because of man-made global warming

Hurricanes happened long before we were here, and will continue happening regardless of what we do.

I think there are two conflicting issues here, climate change science and political involvement.

With the vast majority of scientists convinced that climate change is real and happening right now, due to their measured and scientific efforts, you would have to be ignorant to claim that it isn't true. That is not apportioning blame to human effect or natural effect, just the science that there is a warming trend underway. That observed pattern is not a hoax, but real, unless all the scientists involved are colluding and doctoring their results.

The other issue is the political involvement in the issue. I agree that it's stupid to keep on supporting measures to prop up other countries and allow them to keep/increase the negative action that is believed to effect negatively climate change.

To claim that climate change is not real because some other entities are attempting to profit from the climate change debate is not a position that rational thought would support. One must separate firstly the issue of observed climate change from the attempt to gain politically and financially from it. It is ridiculous to state that it is a hoax because China or some other country is inventing it to gain something. China is not melting the polar ice caps or performing other observable physical phenomenon. But they are trying to profit from it.
