I have officially figured out the biggest thing I hate about my otherwise great job...........STUPID PEOPLE. Im not talking about people who are a little dumb, I'm talking about those who are real dumb, and then get mad at you for not letting them kill themselves and others by being dumb.

I work in the rental equipment business, big national chain. No less than twice a day, someone will show up in a truely POS vehicle, towing a even more pathetic trailer, and want to leave our yard towing weights that their vehicle was never intended to handle. For instance, today a guy shows up in an old body style F150, no tow package, no reciever hitch, just a ball on the bumper, and he wants us to let him leave towing a skid steer, and trailer, which together weigh a tad under 7500 lbs. The rating on the bumper was 3500 lbs. He gets absolutely pissed when we refuse to let him do it, to the point of yelling and cursing. Same line as they all give, "I pull more weight than that all the time, it can handle it." I really am a nice guy, and could see if he had just come in, having no clue what it weighted, and had to go back for a differient truck, however when he was reserving the machine, I personally made it a point to explain in depth that he ABSOLUTELY MUST be driving a vehicle rated to tow 7500 lbs, and that every towing related component must be rated to do the same (no 5k lb ball mounts on a 10k reciever hitch). Personally, I would love to be able to hook it up and let him go, I would make more money, but it's against the law for obvious reasons, and if I am involved in allowing it, it would be my butt on the line.

Maybe it's me, but I just do not understand how anyone could be of this mindset.

I had a neighbor lady threaten to shoot me today because she said I was in her yard.
Their apparently not happy with the surveys I've had done(three total, two since they've moved in), and are to cheap to pay for their own to find out if my surveyor is right or wrong.
Why would a person act like this instead of getting their own survey, and if there is a problem, let the county figure it out?

This is ignorant behavior.

"Obviously has other issues" is an understatement. She has a few problems with day to day things, and she certainly isn't helped by her husband(try to picture a woman who believes absolutely everthing her husband tells her).

Garret, you can only ignore em for so long. Her husband has a somewhat expansive approach to life. When they first bought the lot(4 or 5 years ago), he got the impression from the seller that his lot was 130' wide. When you are to cheap to hire a surveyor you can persist with that kind of a fantasy for a long time. There isn't a 130' wide lot in the subdivision. We live on a bay, and the original plat shows the lots to be 120'+/- due to the irregular shore line. Even a kid in kindergarten can look at the plat and see that the lots are the same size.

I've gone out of my way to be decent to these people, my wife thinks I'm nuts. After yesterday its just proof again that I married a woman who knows me better than I know myself.

To continue AB's thread. Ignorant people always try and push non-ignorant people around, and than if something goes wrong they'll blame the other guy. Not renting to these type of people is the right decision.

Most of my clients are college graduates. A lot of them have master's degrees.

About once a month I'm told by one of them to cancel their trip. Then after I have cancelled everything including their hotel space they say,"Ok now I need to rebook it for the flights that leave (at different times) on those same days."

Poor Bunny, gets realy upset to learn that I cant get the hotel back because I was told to -cancel- the trip, and it's been sold-out for weeks. If only they knew the word "change." lol

Their travel director says he doesnt even forward these complaints to us because he knows any one this dumb will be gone long before they can get him in trouble either.

Customer comes back three years after the repair, states "your paint is flaking off my bumper", runs all six customers waiting in line out with those comments, go out to see this "flaking paint" only to find they have hit something else with their bumper. Happens at least ten times a year.

most of our regular customers have figured this out, 50 or 60 bucks each way in most cases is much cheaper than sending a guy on the clock, and paying 60 bucks to rent a trailer, not to mention safer.

Wait 'till a man and his wife come home from a 2 week vacation only to find a 1/2 framed 4 bedroom house on their lot. At least they thought it was. Both worked 10 hour days and missed all activity taking place for a week prier. Even missed my foundation stakes, sign in yard as to where to dump sand for the morter and even a temp. power pole in the back of the lot. I thought they were gonna kill me, seriously, until I brought out the platt and a copy of the deed. Needless to say, they had their realitor on the phone within minutes and I must say, I learned several new swear words. Come to find out, the fellow was a saltwater fisherman and we became friends. That was over 20 years ago and he recently relocated to my neighborhood after moving away for several years to a near by town. He and I were in business together in Charleston and remain close to this day. One never knows how things may turn out in life!
On a different note, I put a septic tank and 500' of field line on the wrong lot in my younger days. Seems my boss wrote down the address wrong. Man come home from work and with no panic seen an honest mistake and thanked me very politely for the FREE field line and tank. We all just laughted it off as all in a days work.

Ignorant people? You mean like the girl that gave me the finger after she passed me ...only to catch the next red light 1/4 mile up the road? I was going 5 over. Or my neighbors neighbor that parked his utility trailer right on the prop line after I drove in his yard for 2 seconds to get another trailer. I mean our lots are over 200' wide! Whatever......My reward is the fact that they will always be stupid....
