Audi A4 - The Hull Truth

I'm 17 years old, and going off to college next year. I'll most probablly be attending Stonybrook University, and am going to be staying at home rather than staying on campus. It is a forty minute drive one way, and we are now starting to look at cars to buy over the summer. My question is, what do people who have the Audi A4 think of it? I was looking at the 1998 model, with the four cylinder eninge. It is supposed to get 30mpg on the highway, and 21 in the city. If anyone has one, or had one, please post your comments about the car. The A4 is a great car. But, seeing how your going to be commuting, I would recommend something else. I too live on Long Island, and live at Adelphi University, so Im home for the weekends. Your probably looking for a car with a little speed, but during our current economy, I would consider a a Civic. My cousin has one with a stick and gets close to 40mpg. The best part about it is that its a very inexpensive car and they last a long time. I think he has a 2005, and its pretty economical. Just my $0.02

As a life long owner of European cars,I'd have to warn against it. They are wonderful driving cars,but they are not very reliable,and expensive to fix.When they are new,no problem ,if they break,you have a warrantee. When used,with alot of miles,you have to watch out. If this car has 70000+ miles,it might be ready for brakes,water pump,timing belt,tires etc. Currently I drive a BMW 645ci,and I am in love with the car,but even it has it's quirks.My other car is a 2006 Lexus 400h,that I got last week,and those things are unbelievable.I've had 4 Lexus,and never had a problem with one of them. I can't say that for all the Mercedes I've had.My point is that your going to college,and you don't need a "headache car". Good Luck

AUdi's are nice.....but expensive to repair. I'd go with HONDA or ACURA.

Now keep those grades up ......or the car goes away !!!

Ditto what the others have said...I guess they are a lot like the VW's and have lots maintenance issues that are pricey. If I was to buy a German car, I would buy one with the factory warranty and sell it the day before it ran out. Can't go wrong with Honda or Acura.
