Default US gov enters real estate deal

True on Snopes:
http://www.snopes.com/politics/business/blum.asp

All In The Family
The US has entered into a contract with a real estate firm to sell 56 buildings that currently house U.S. Post Offices. The government has decided it no longer needs these buildings, many of which are located on prime land in towns and cities across the country.
The sale of these properties will fetch billions of dollars and a handsome 6% commission to the company handling the sales. That company belongs to a man named Richard Blum. Who is Richard Blum you ask? Why the husband of Senator Dianne
Feinstein, that's who. What a bunch of crooks we have running this country!
Senator Feinstein and her husband, Richard Blum, stand to make a fortune. His firm, C.R. I., is the sole real estate company offering these properties for sale. Of course,
C.R.I. will be making a 6% commission on the sale of each and every one of
these postal properties.
All of these properties that are being sold are all fully paid for. They were purchased with U.S. taxpayers dollars, and they are allowed free and clear by the U.S.P.S. The only cost to keep them is the cost to actually keep the doors open and the heat and lights on. The United States Postal Service doesn't even have to pay property taxes on these subject properties. Would you sell your house just because you couldn't afford to
pay the electric bill? Well, the Post Office is.
How does a powerful U.S. Senator from San Francisco manage to get away with such a sweet deal? A powerful United States Senator's husband is standing by, all ready to make millions from a U.S. taxpayer funded enterprise.
No one in the mainstream media is even raising an eyebrow over his 6% commission on the sale of hundreds of millions of dollar's worth of quasi-public assets. We need to call your Representatives and demand this be stopped.

The appearance of impropriety should be the standard. Very sad. You mean with all the government agencies out there, none could manage the sale ???...bullcrap.

CBRE is the biggest and some would argue the best commercial brokerage firm in the country ....

How come I never got the bid package :-)

This sounds like insider trading at best and the goverment would arrest you or I if we even tried to exacute a contract

While I agree, there was most likely some impropriety and favoritism .... The article did say there was a competitive bid process and CBRE won ...

What annoys me more is the large commission - 6% is rich for commercial real estate - especially for such a huge portfolio...

3% would have been more than fair ....

Billions means many more than one billion. So lets say its 5.6 billion for easy math. Do you really think 56 POs are worth 5.6 billion. Commission for a sale of that size is way out of whack. Are any of these in NYC?

Nonetheless the GSA or whoever should have managed the sale on-line with plenty of advertising in the appropriate commercial RE pubs. I belong to VOID (Vote Out Incumbents for Democracy- which is unfortunately liberal leaning) but is the only organization that I know of that actively pursues term limits.

if you really spend the time to look into the reward our friends culture of politics - look how many current and former politicians were paid $$millions by Fannie & Freddie (including Chicago's beloved Rahm), in addition to all the other deals along the lines Blum is getting (Pelosi's husband has gotten dozens of the worth $10's millions from CA), it will just confirm what the Tea Partier's say - government is corrupt and evil.

Was it done to soothe Feinstein's wounded pride after her gun control bills went down in flames?
