Default StraightTalk cell phone service

Any one using this? Seems too good to be true. Wife and I are on Verizon now, both have motorola droid 2 global (Not real happy with them, freeze up alot, slow loading apps at times). We share 700 mins a month now, unlimited text/data plan for both of us. We spend almost 160.00 a month for our plan with Verizon. Seems like for only 90.00/month we can get everything we have now but with no limits? Only thing is we have to pay for the new phone. But I am sure we can sell our droids on ebay or CL. Our contract is getting ready to runout with Verizon. Thoughts?

It looks like straight talk offers both cdma and gsm, so you should be able to use a current verizon phone with them(cdma). If you have a local techy guy, he can load a much better rom on those droids for you that should take care of your phone problems.

It all comes down to what type of service you want. Verzion has the best service thats why it cost so much but I do have the droid 2 from verzion and I HATE THIS PHONE I HATE THIS PHONE I HATE THIS PHONE. Glad I get to upgrade soon

Straight talk CDMA phones use verizon towers as well.

My mom just switched and she is happy with the service and loves the cost. If I wasn't under contract until God knows when, I would switch. I have 3 lines and pay damn near $300 a month with Verizon.

You can, just have to get it unlocked.

A new ROM takes care of it.

Coverage should be very good. The CDMA side of the network uses Verizon's or Sprint's CDMA 1xRTT wireless networks, which was introduced in 2001 and is said to deliver between 40 and 60 kb/s to customers, while the GSM side makes use of either T-Mobile's or AT&T's GSM networks.

I have Verizon and have great service at my house, they just put a 6ft extension on the tower by my house. My brother just got a straight talk phone and he has 0 bars at my house. If they used the same towers he would have great service. Also their customer service sucks. The only reason straight talk is good.is because there are no contracts. And you can only use straight talk phones.

You would need opinions from people that live around you with straight talk. I would hate not having service.

Not all straight talk phones/plans use the same systems. My phone uses T-mobile, my wifes uses Verizon. As mentioned earlier other phones can be used if you know how to unlock them.

I bet your brother has a gsm phone as well.

CDMA and GSM use different towers.

He has the new smart phone they have. Paid 180 for it and hardly any service. He called them before he bought it to make sure and they said he will have great service. Owell, now he has a phone that can't be returned.

I have Straight Talk running an unlocked HTC Inspire 4G GSM (runs on ATT network). I couldnt be happier. Unlimited everything for $48 month (includes tax) and no extra fees. Same charge EVERY month.

If you buy a smart phone through straight talk, it will run on Sprints newwork which sucks in my area.
You can buy your own unlocked or ATT GSM phone and buy a new GSM card from straight talk for $15. Plug in the new card and activate the phone. Takes about 15 minutes.

Heres the info:

If he bought it from ST, he got the crappy Sprint network. You need to do it the way I did.

I had ST regular phone for over a year that ran on Verizons network and it was great.

I have an out of contract Verizon Wireless Samsung Galaxy android phone. Do you know if this can be used with Straight Talk on the Verizon Network? or do I need to pick up an unlocked AT&T phone and be locked into their network?

For coverage reasons, I would really want to stay with the Verizon network.

You can only use smart phones that have a GSM card (not verizon)

I have read this thread several times because I'm very interested. I still can't figure out if I can get a StraightTalk phone that will work off a Verizon tower (the only tower in the area). Assuming I can get a phone that will work off that tower, how would I know which phone?

Y'all are using terms like cdma and gsm. Then conflicting info such as "Straight talk CDMA phones use Verizon towers", "Website says you cant use a Verizon CDMA phone", "You can, just have to get it unlocked. A new ROM takes care of it".

What the heck are Y'all saying? All I want is a phone that will work off the Verizon tower and I don't care if it is "smart". I would like a large screen and be able to keep my existing phone #. How would I go about finding the right phone? I've gone to http://www.straighttalk.com/ and I'm still confused.

BTW, they never use the term CDMA. They did say "Use virtually any compatible or unlocked GSM phone with our Straight Talk SIM to get service on the best nationwide networks".

Also, it would appear that coverage for an Android phone is very limited. Supposedly, a Samsung T528G will work in my area. It's 3G with a 3" touch screen and web capable.

If I go to WalMart (which I'd really rather not do), I don't trust that they'd know what they're talking about.

Sorry for the long post. I need a new phone and don't want to get tied to a 2yr contract for a bunch of reasons.

Sprint works well in my area,my contract is up July 1st

I pay 117.00 mo for unlimited everything,so I go to walmart and

ask Bubba if my HTC phone will work with smart talk, he said yeah.

Then another wal-matian says no. Come home looked up their website and

now I know less than I knew before, which was nothing.
