Random Quote: If it weren't for lack of money I'd be a rich man.
I have been putting off visiting my grandparents for much too long now I have too do it. I have been searching Expedia and Hotwire for airline fares and the best I can come up with is $ 1100.00 round trip for 3 tickets, before I call a ticket office and make an ass of myself does this seam right?? I swear I have seen Jet blue and others advertising 150 round trip tickets
I don't know where you're going but when I lived in NY, I used them all the time.* Their fares and service are great.* Another great one is Southwest Airline.* I don't know if they service the areas you're looking at.* Their worth a try.* No middle man to deal with.* With*Jet Blue if you cancel, it's only a $25 fee and the rest is credited to your next booking.*
Be flexible in your travel time....Mondays and Fridays will cost more.....traveling at off hours is good as well.....buy at least two weeks in advance.......I can maybe help more with more details.....I fly Delta every week....
Don't try to book too far in advance. I am flying from Greenville Sc to Dallas next monday, tried booking the tickets a month ago, they were in the $450 range. Looked again at the same flights last tuesday, picked them up for 173.50, and that was on Delta's website. When searching for fares, search by price, not by schedule. I've noticed that most of the sites that have this option will charge more for the same exact tickets depending on how you go about searching for them. If you search by price, and can't find something you like, you can always go back and search by schedule.
I am going from Boston to Ft Lauderdale, of course I can't be flexible at all which totally blows I have to leave on a Friday and return on a Tuesday. I did notice that I could book a return flight with Jet blue for pretty short money I am wondering if I should just book the return now and keep searching for a good rate flying down. And I will not be flying util 4/15 when all the kiddies are out on vacation
Don't book anytime soon, the rate you are seeing now is MUCH higher than it will be if you wait until within about 2 weeks. The chances of all of the suitable flight choices getting booked up is slim to none, I would just hold off for a while, and keep an eye on the flights, if one pops up that is cheap, grab it, but keep in mind that very few flights within the US are totally booked, and those that do fill up usually don't do so until a few days before the flight, and oftentimes the day of. Last minute rates can actually be quite good, but only if the flights aren't all that full. If they are full, they are horrible.
You should also try priceline, if you don't like their posted fares you can name you own price (if you are flexible with time), give them an extreme lowball price and they'll counter with another price.
Getting to and from Florida between now and Easter will be expensive...not sure when you are planning to go but with spring break and the holiday its tough to get seats.
That said...airfares seem to be creeping up again.* I've been traveling between ATL and the Northeast (Philadelphia and Newark) almost every week since last summer and I had been paying anywhere from $180 with advance notice to $320 or so last minute....now the 14 day advance notice tix are running in the $250s and the last minutes are close to $400.
I fly quite a bit, too. Another thing that may work is to try airports that are nearby and just rent a car. I'm not real familiar with Boston, but you could try flying into West Palm, Miami or even Orlando and just driving to Ft. Lauderdale. Sometimes changing the airports will help immensely. I normally fly out of Orlando, but sometimes I can drive over to Tampa (which is only about 20 minutes further than Orlando for me) and I'll save $200 on airfare.
Support your boater friends. This is the Airline that I work for. I was in Hartford and just moved to Fort Myers. PBI is only a 30-min drive to FLL

It's 'Spring Break" and peak*season from about last week until the first week in April. Buy as soon as you can because*any cheap seats still available are likely to be gone soon. I'm in the business and could not get a pass so I bought tickets about January 20,*out of Boston, for the end of March. I checked it a couple days later and my $255 seats would have cost $400.
Try Southwest from Providence. They fly to Tampa, Ft Lauderdale, W.Palm Beach, Jacksonville, Orlando and maybe a few more. Use their website. It's easy to navigate and they have a $10 discount for on-line bookings.
Good luck!

About Independence Air, Whatever you do, if you buy a ticket on them, pay with a credit card. You'll have some recourse should they cancel your flight in the event of bankruptcy. They're OK for now, but recently had a third of their fleet "voluntarily" repossessed, and the prices they're charging don't meet their costs. Airlines are getting hammered right now with Jet A at 1.50+/$/gallon, and of the airlines out there NOT in BK, FlyI is the closest to BK.

I work for the company. We didn't have a third of our fleet repossed We gave a third of our CRJ fleet back as part of restructioning debt. It's the same thing UA/AA/US and everyone else is doing. We are adding brand new Airbus 319 to our fleet. 3 per month. As more Aibus's come on-line, we will conitnue to reduce the RJ fleet.
Are we suffering? YUP! Just like every other Airline with the exception of South West.
NO DANGER of bankruptcy for at least a year and by then, we should be pretty stable. Our passenger loads our outstanding this month and should stay high from now on. Passengers live us!
I'm in the business too. They only had 1 plane reposessed that I've heard of.*
The advice of using a credit card is still good. You can get a refund from the credit card company*if the trip is within 60 days of purchase and a carrier goes under within that 60 day period.

Whoa, hope I didn't step on anyones toes here, just offering some advice (unsolicited, I might add) to a fellow THT'er. FlyI is a fine company with a fresh product thata price competitive. Less than 2 weeks ago the company entered into this: http://biz.yahoo.com/e/050225/flyi8-k.html 24 jets returned to GE. About 1/3 of the rj fleet.

Peace.
Your advice is good about the credit card on ANY airline. But here is a big difference between "REPOSESSED" versus "RESTRUCTURING"
One plane did get taken back but we wanted it to go back anyway. But the media put a spin on it.
