Sounds like he's asking for help choosing a home location. Just wondering, what made you choose the Cape on the west coast? I looked there myself and thought it a great place to retire, but the Mrs. but the idea to rest, she needs a bit more life in her life so we are now looking in the Sarasota/Tampa area.

There are 1 or 2 members here that live in Cape Coral, maybe they will kick in and help you out, why not rent for a few months before you buy so you can scope out areas you like best?
We owned a home there for a few years, got out when things peaked. It was in the SW region of the city, about 1h 15m to the locks. Too long if you want to live there that's for sure. I look a lot still, prices are really attractive now. If I were to do it again, I would buy a renovated home in the Yacht Club region of the city. It is the oldest, but was very desirable (still is) during the boom because if has instant sailboat access to the river and the Gulf beyond. The fishing in and around there is good, my buddy still has his home in the YC area and he catches all the fish he wants from his dock.
