Default Uh, anyone seen the dog?

Dog survives abduction by eagle

Jill Slevin didn't want to tell her kids Wednesday that she had pretty much given up hope of finding their dog Freddie alive.

The Pekingese mix had disappeared a week earlier. And an extensive search over the course of several below-zero nights had proved futile.
"We had a lot of weepy eyes over the New Year's weekend," Slevin said Wednesday of her three children.

But then, miraculously, Freddie showed up at the door of their home north of Bozeman at noon Wednesday -- one week after he had disappeared.

He was covered with ice, riddled with bug bites and had cuts around his neck.

Slevin immediately put Freddie on a blanket and quickly took him to Valley View Veterinary Hospital, where veterinarian John McIlhattan checked out the wounded dog.

The cuts led McIlhattan to determine that the little dog had been picked up by an eagle. The marks were in fact caused by an eagle digging its talons into Freddie's neck.

My neighbor saw an eagle carrying a cat in the field behind my house one day. I could certainly see one going after a Pekingese too. Between the owls, eagles and coyotes behind my house, those little critters don't stand a chance.

A few years ago we had a litter (11) of 3 week old Goldens playing in the yard and a hawk started circling real low. I had never thought about it before but realized that one of those little guys could have been puppy burger.

Lots of small dogs are lost to golden and bald eagles out west and in the far north. My wife and I were gassing up just outside of Valdez, Alaska a couple years ago when a huge motorhome pulled up the next diesel pump and a woman and man got out...the fellow starts filling his tank while the woman takes a very feisty little poodle she calls 'Puffy' over to the grass so it can take a whizz. The little critter was yapping up a storm and the guy pumping gas was grimacing at us like it wasn't his fault the toy poddle was so ill-mannered. Well, out of nowhere this bald eagle just swoops down and snatches that little dog up and away it went...the pooch hanging in his talons. The woman has gone hysterical, screaming bloody murder at the eagle...who is disappearing over the treetops with 'Puffy'. I look back at the driver holding the fuel hose and he is grinning from ear to ear. Adios "Puffy".

Eats cats huh?

Where can I get one of those eagles?

I don't need him long, maybe a week, or about three meals whichever comes first.
