Between those 2 I too prefer Trane. One thing people don't consider about going with higher efficiency units is the price of the parts after the warranty is out. All brands, but Carrier and Trane are among the highest, higher efficiency parts can run triple (or more) the cost of standard efficiency parts. You don't want to pay for a variable speed blower motor out of warranty on a Carrier or Trane. We replaced 2 circuit breakers on a Trane variable speed air handler the other day. These are not standard breakers you get at Lowes. They had to come from the Trane distributor. Total repair bill was $500. I like 13 seer equipment. With the up front price difference and the energy savings over the life of the unit, if you have to have 1 repair out of warranty the difference in the repair cost of 16 seer vs. 13 seer negates all your savings.
