Love him or hate him, it's refreshing to see a show that doesn't shy away from the more gory aspects of offshore fishing. It's the antethesis of other shows.....no starched white shirts or PETA-friendly camera shots here. I would never invite Barta to fish with me, but it's good to see that at least a few TV execs have the cajones to let a show like this air.
It's on the Outdoor Life Network. Usually airs at 9PM EST on Friday night and again on Saturday morning. I saw it last night for the first time...he went on a canyon trip for tuna; Marti would've been impressed with all the blood in the cockpit.
Just remember that not all people that watch that show are "true" fishermen and may be seeing things like that for the first time.*They could be turned off to the point that they have the idea of our sport being brutal, cruel and wind up voting to stop game fishing as we know it since the perception is there, right or wrong. Personally, I saw his show for the first time this morning and I think the guy is an a$$hole and NOT a good representation of a sport fisherman........ Flame on...........

I agree . . . while he is very knowledgeable about offshore fishing, I don't enjoy watching shows where he is on . . . he is pompous and dumps on everyone who is not 100% in agreement with him . . . his articles in 'Big Game Fishing' are usually so one sided that its almost laughable . . . again, too bad because he is a very observant and very knowledgeable offshore fisherman,* too bad
He is a good fisherman, but the sport is supposed to be fun... at least in my book. If he were on my boat I may throw him overboard if he got on me like that.
I think some have taken this as some sort of endorsement of the man....it is not. He is a jerk and a braggart, but he does know something about fishing and the show is going where most others have feared to tread. He would last about a half-hour on my boat before his BS got old and I'd put him ashore at the nearest landfall. I just think the show is refreshing in that it shows the inevitable result of a meat fish trip; if it puts a few folks off, then they don't need to be fishing in the first place.
I have read Treds offshore fishing articles for a long time, and ,like you said-it's love him, or hate him. He is very knowledgeable, and a keen observer.
With Tread-there is never any doubt where he stands,he does try to be honest and up front about things, and with him- it's take me or leave me. It makes no difference to him which you choose.
He does have the cojones to (tell it like it is),with no sugar coating. I admire that plus his knowledge. It's just a shame that he is so abrasive. If you can get around that, there is a lot to be learned from him.

While he's not the type of guy I would hang around, I can benefit from his willingness to share knowledge. He's also a firm believer in safety. I enjoyed the show on yft trolling.
