Wow, what was he doing broad side to the waves? I have been navigating that inlet for most of my life and it is a scary one but I would figure someone with his experience would not do that.. There must be more the the story in terms of why he was headed in that direction.
They claim the stepped hulls can do that very easy

The water doesnt look big enough to bow steer a boat that size? Infact it just looks like normal jupiter inlet crap, that makes for exciting 22 ft cc traveling. That boat shouldnt have laid over that far and it shouldnt have come back up?
Coming out of the west coast my home port was Winchester Bay Oregon at are jaws I have been in 15' + in my commercial boat I never had a wave do that I would be a cork and it would set me down close to the rocks, motor forward do it all over again guys that turn there boats in that is a huge no no. I would go a mile offshore with a large loop to turn around. Looks more like boater mistake broadside in the inlet. Glad he is ok
There is a post on the boating forum where a poster stated that the captain is not all right. Broken neck, ribs, etc. Critical condition. Hope he recovers.
As far as the size of the waves, pictures can be very deceiving. Seas are often much larger than they appear in pictures and on video.

Looks pretty calm for Jupiter. I'm thinking brain fart.

When you enlarge the pics, it is hard to tell if he went flying, or is trying to hold on to the tower. The last two, where he goes from horizontal to vertical in the same air space, make it look like he is holding on, at that point.
looks like he came out of the flybridge and landed on the gunnel before going in the drink. the wheel hand to have been turned hard to port when they got hit broadside to lay over a boat of that size.
