Harley is on the American made kick, true blue amercian pie motorcycle. It is over priced, the parts are priced way out of line, It does not care about is customers (money wise) The dealers charge way over MSRP. But now at least when you go into a Harley delership they are full of bikes.Not like it was 6 years ago, when you had to wait months to get your bike in. I think it is good that all the small companys are making Harley clones( I have two harleys and one orange county chopper) so Harley can feel the pain of the little guy.Ok so I am off my meds and get pissed off about things... what do you think. Allen
cjd,
I am not taking anything away from Harley in the quality department. The OCC will not hold up to use as a every day driver. Sure it get looks and you can't stop anywhere without have to talk about it(I love that part) But if you want to put alot of miles on your bike The harley is the one. My OCC is a softail and rides ok, but with the 250 tire and the off set primary it pulls alittle to the left and steers strange. Allen
I've got a harley Davidson question that has bugged me for a long time and maybe someone can answer me here.
I've seen and known Harley guys for my whole life and they all profess ideals such as
Freedom
Individualism
American Pride and so on.
But here's the rub. How come they all dress up to look alike? They look like a bunch of followers to a cult that has no leader.
Most Harley owners I know, own foreign cars!
Most Harley owners I know have a burning desire to look much tougher than they really are.
What makes a successful NY attorney who drives a mercedes dress up like a thug with a helmet that says F*@k Fear?
I really hope this conversation doesn't get contentious because I honestly would like some input. I know how some guys get about this stuff.
I was ready to get contentious until you said not to.
Go onto any of the HD forums and the same questions are asked. What is a biker? When are you a RUB? A poser? Do you spend more time cleaning than riding? Do you wave at crotch rockets or Gold Wings? yada yada yada
To me its all about the boobs on my back and the bugs in my teeth. I really don't care what other people do or wear. I just ride.
BTW, speaking of true bikers, may Indian Larry rest in peace.
Hey Shag;
Thanks for "cordial" response. Seriously!
I guess I couldve gone on a HD forum. didn't think of that.
I can only imagine how bad the discussion gets on those sites.
Seems like the motorcycle world is more split than the presidential race!!!!
I've lost too many friends on bikes. HD and Jap alike.
Be careful.
No offense to normal and considerate bikers, but what's the deal with how loud some of these bikes are? The noise from these things is beyond reasonable. It amazes me even more to see people not wearing helmets while riding these noise machines. Not only are they increasing the chance they will be killed, they are surely ruining their hearing. Why not also smoke a cigarette with the gas tank open between your legs?
What's the difference between a Harley and a Hoover?
The position of the dirtbag.
Mike, I lurk quite a bit on http://www.v-twinforum.com/forums/ but don't post much. You are right, some of those discussions make this board look like a bunch of little ol ladies.
It is funny to me how some people think more about how they look and how many people are impressed by their bike than they do about riding. I like riding, not the "image".

Its a Harley thing. I we had to explain you wouldn't understand.
You touched on a few things that bug me. I had allways wanted a HD from when I was about 18. There were 2 rules in my house growing up. 1) no machine guns and 2) no street bikes. Givin the fact that there was no room and board to pay,,, I went along with the rules. I moved out and never bought one. My brother moved out and bought bikes. His present is a 02 Road King w/ 86 HP at the rear wheel last I knew.
Anyway, the feeling went away a few years ago (I'm 43 now) and I'm glad it did. I hung out with plenty of folks who rode/ride and still know a bunch who still do. What bugs me now as much as it did years ago is the HD window sticker on the Made at the J.A.Pan Company car or truck. People who wear HD gear and can't spell it. The attitudes that some of these dweebs get when they toss their leg over the saddle. The list goes on.
Harley made themselves nothing more than a whore. You can't go anywhere without seeing the logo on something. Chances are that something was NOT made in America. What gets me the most is that some of the parts that are on their bikes right out of the factory have foriegn made parts bolted to them. Tell me again about outsourcing and the money made on cheap overseas labor/parts yet still charge 4-6 K OVER MSRP. At least with fishing and boating WE KNOW it's expensive!!
If the urge comes back maybe a full custom would be nice or even a Ducatti. One thing is for sure, It won't be a factory built bike.
I thank god that not much else sounds as good as a bored & stroked 105 inch with a good set of V&H pipes.

I've never been a racist. I don't like the white half either.
Shag;
Man..... I'm guessing that if I don't know what any of those three are I'm the worst one!!!
Can you explain and I'll answer.
BTW: I find nothing more ignorant than someone who doesnt even ride with HD stickers on everything they own. That and West Coast Choppers should limit their paraphanalia to folks that have shelled out the cash for one. I know a guy who's never been on a bike in his life and when the rally came to town, he would don his HD shirt, black vest and even a stupid looking bandana on his head. What an A*@hole.
RUB = Rich Urban Biker. Banker by day, biker on weekends. Owns a HD cause they can.
Poser = The guy you described. One who wears his leathers when goes to the grocery store in his mini-van.
1%er = the 1% who live and breathe HD. The biker's bikers.
I don't really fall into any of these "categories" and don't want to. I just enjoy riding with my bride and best friend on the back. (BTW, they are the same person) I don't even own any leathers except for my black leather Converse high tops. But they do look cool!
That's funny Shag;
No I'm none of the above.
I do own and ride a suzuki sport touring bike.
Been down the Blue ridge, cruised myrtle beach, charleston area.
I wear a full helmet, ballistic jacket and pants with armor. A real safety geek in some eyes, but like I said earlier, lots of people I know who rode are gone and I don't want to be next.
As a sidebar, I was involved in a traffic accident several weeks ago. My bike is for sale. I wasn't on my bike at the time but it was that traumatic for me. I love riding and don't care what anyone else wears or does as long as they don't put me in a jackpot doing it.

Gee MO, I don't know the first thing about bikes, but I do know a little about business....wouldn't you want your business to operate exaactly like this?
Wow,
You are right , you got to make money, I also wonder why the guys all wat to look like James dean or a hells angel. A rub I am not, 26 year army vet, short hair, just a plain leather jacket. Hey holden beach, my brother lives there.I was going to take my world cat there but i think I have it sold to a good old GA boy. Well I have had 52 motorcycles and started on a honda 50 supersport in 1966. I got two tickets in one day going to see a girl in raeford NC It all started when I saw fonda in easy rider and I said when I am retired I want to buy a harley, take off my watch, and ride off with no one telling me - Sorry, I will learn to watch my language - about what to do.(the army years ) I retired, have the bikes, money, but no desire S%^t happens Allen
