Default jeep wrangler unlimited 4-door

if you have one of these, do you like it? would you buy it again?
i need some pro's & con's...before i make an impulse buy

my wife needs a daily driver, it would be nice to have a 4x4 for towing and launching my little duck boat on small ramps, and she lugs the dogs around with her alot

talk me out of it (it seems WAY overpriced)

Just bought one of my ex-wives one, spent some time in it last weekend and was impressed by the build quality. Hers is the soft top which I expected to be pretty loud at hughway speeds but its not at all. Well thoought out inside and shes nuts about having the top down...all day everyday. It DID seem pricey at first, but then it's also very hard to compare it to anything else. Another thing to is they hold their resale value very well.

I'm not familiar with the 4dr...but a friend has on and he loves it. Not sure how much he tows with it tho, if at all.

I've got a 2000 TJ that i will probably keep forever long as it runs..no matter how old and ugly it gets.

And yes they do hold their value. I think if Jeep owners reply to this thread, you wont really get anyone trying to "talk you out of it" lol

I had one of the previous generations and loved it as a fun 2nd/3rd vehicle but as a daily driver? I don't know. Have her spend as much time as possible in it before committing. Maybe the newer ones are better.

i was worried about that too...i test drove one and i have to say, i was grinning like a hippie at woodstock. the 4-door ones have power locks and windows, are comfortable to drive, and are very tight around corners

the only cons i see are the price and the gas mileage

When it comes to resale i think jeep owners think more highly of their jeeps then Grady folks think of their boats. Take a look at resale prices on E-bay. If you don't get manual transimission you better turn in your man card. Even it is for your wife.

I've had 2 TJs and loved them, but agree, only as an occassional vehicle. The JKs are more luxurious (that's relative) but they really do have pretty poor ergonomics, handling and power. I've driven them and I kick the damned door pocket every time I get out of them.

The V6 is pretty gutless after having the torque of the old I6. You have to rev them much more to get any power.

Having said that, I'd love an ulimited as a 3rd vehicle, keep the top off and in the garage. I agree, I think they cost too much for what they are.

In 2008 you could buy a new 2 door X for 15.5K-17K after rebates. Now I don't think you can get one under 20? Not really sure if I'd buy a 2006 TJ now or a 2008 JK.

I agree about the prices now too. I sold a very clean/lifted/low mileage 2005 Rubicon for 17K couple years ago. Asking prices are higher now. Darned thing was only about 24K new! If I find a clean TJ for 7 or 8K, I may buy one, but the ones in the teens are crazy.

LOL..yea has to be a stick! Mines the 4.0 i6 manual...small 235 mud tires (which i bought with) Not sure yet how it will pull the 17' boat im working on. But we'll see soon enough. With the small wheel base it may be a little sketchy.

@cgrand - But with the one you're considering. Much longer wheelbase. Probably no different than any SUV pulling. I wasn't a fan of the new jeep models but they grew on me.

I was told you can actually get those in 2wd only?? If so thats just wrong, Jeeps are meant to be 4wd..

The Unlimited 4-door is about as close as you can get to a "regular" vehicle with the capabilities it has off road. I would get the hard top, since the front half is removable (easily) for sunny driving, but is very quiet when its on. They will tow 3500 lbs easily. Not a speed deamon, but capable. Comfortable for 4 actual people.

Depends what you mean by daily driver. Is she commuting? >20 miles? If so, I'd look elsewhere...but if just driving around town, etc...then go for it. Tough to beat a Jeep on that first Spring day when it's 60+ degrees and you drive around with the top down.

My sister has one. It's a 2010 loaded up with every option and the dealer added leather seats. She loves it, but acknowledges that it is not entirely practical for a family of 4 and a dog and it does not get much better fuel economy than the Nissan Armada that it replaced.

She has owned 2 previous generation Wranglers and a couple Grand Cherokees so she is pretty familiar with all of the Jeep issues and reliability concerns; however, for her, it's all about the image.

she & i work together...40 mile commute each way
there's just the two of us (plus my 14yr old when she's with us) and two big dogs

she's been driving a VW beetle, which is a complete and total piece of steaming dogshit. when we get a new car for her i am going to beat that thing with a maul and then set it on fire

outside of the "cool" factor, like i said a 4wd would be nice on the few times i need one, and i really miss having an SUV (i sold my tahoe and bought a pickup). my primary issue is that if i agree to get her what she wants (she wants it) then it had damn well better hold up

I tried to talk my wife out of a Jeep (Rubicon). Caved back in 2003 and it has been great. I drive it whenever she lets me....now that I put street tires on it.

I sell Chevrolets. I think this Jeep is just plain cool. It is what a Hummer 3 should have been. The Jeep with 4 doors gotta love it.
