doing some research i hear people complaining about the 3.8L V6 engine being a dog on the highway
I can comment on it, Ive sold about 1000 of them. Most Dealers wish they had gone with the 4.0 out of the Pacifica/Nitro. The 3.8 is the minivan motor. It is a good pushrod motor, with torque. I would rate it as "adequate". It sufers when the lifts go on amd the massive tires are installed. The other issue is there are not readily available "power adders" But all and all, its a nice rig that does what it does very well. Personally, i would like to see the Wrangler with about 50-75 more HP and equal torque.

if you have one of these, do you like it? would you buy it again?
i need some pro's & con's...before i make an impulse buy
my wife needs a daily driver, it would be nice to have a 4x4 for towing and launching my little duck boat on small ramps, and she lugs the dogs around with her alot
talk me out of it (it seems WAY overpriced)
Its the vehicle with better resale value in America,
get a 6 cylinder, becareful buying used, some people ask more
that what they cost new.
Also fast turns are a no no, it tips fast.
Its a model that has been around forever, no surprise issues,
most issues have been worked on.
If you enter a "curve" with a little too much speed, you will realize it...
Woman entering curves with that vehicle have to behave, special if it's loaded.
I personally used to know people that tip one in the first 50 miles,
2 out of 4 people died.
Get the one with the hard top or dual hard top, if it tips you will somewhat protected.
For years has been "number 1 car" that holds more resale value in America.
In the late 90's you could get one fully equipped for 14k, people still ask that for a mint/low miles 97.
Just yahoo: "Jeep Wrangler resale value", in the SUV market
it has been the winner many times.

I taught some of them had the 4L engine, I taugh the Rubicon unlimited was 4L.
In Europe they have a 2.8L CRD Diesel version, sad that is not available in the USA...

I think I have had some version of a Jeep in my garage for many years. The traditional Wrangler has a very short wheelbase and does not tow well at speed, so I'd expect the four door version to have overcome that problem.
But, if you are commuting 40 miles each way or 80 miles per day, I'd be looking at a Grand Cherokee instead. They are finally getting independent rear suspension for 2011, which should make a huge improvement in the ride. As far as I know, the suspension was last revised in 2005 and eliminated some of the "head toss" of the earlier versions. The best part about 'em is that they have the correct layout, with the engine in front and primary drive axle in the rear.
I've owned a few Wranglers and most have been automatics. I have had no problem selling them and never wished they were manuals. But, the resale on a 2 wheel drive Wrangler is not good and makes it a very tough thing to sell.
My $.02 is for the money, may as well buy the Rubicon model and get 3/4 ton running gear (Dana 44 front and rear with elx lockers), a 4.0 reduction transfer case, and sway bar disconnects.
What held me back is although it has 3/4 ton running gear, its towing capacity is poor due to inadequate frame and springs.
Ours is an 83 cj8. Still turns heads everywhere we go.
Love that CJ8!...color maybe not so much..lol But to each there own. I do reall like it. Hows it pull the boat?

BTW, if any Jeep owners are interested theres an iphone app called TripCast by Jeep. All i really know so far is that you can track your trips and post them online, and use it to network with other jeep owners. The apps brand spanking new.
I'll be trying it out for the first time soon, since i just installed it last nite. www.jeeptripcast.com
i'm seeing used prices on 2007's and such with over 50K miles in the very high teens, if not 20's
that surprised me, alot
is this a reflection of holding value, or is this because they are "trendy"?
In my market, they are the "golden egg" of used cars. (southern California) They are a VERY strong used car. Disregard the "tip over" warnings. This car is a totally new design.
"I taught some of them had the 4L engine, I taugh the Rubicon unlimited was 4L.

No inline 4 liters in the new wrangler, no diesel (look for it 2012)
There is no point in spending the money for a Rubicon unless you really, really are going to use it off road, allot. The "standard 4X4" Sahara with the hard top will do just fine. The tow rating is of course based on the wheelbase and powerplant. 3500 lbs allows it to tow pop up trailers, skiffs etc.

I taught till 2006 the rubicon unlimited was 4L, instead of was... It should say "used to be"... Grammar got the best of me.
I can show you the European page from Jeep with the Diesel ones, the liberty, cherokee, had diesel versions, and for the first time they introduce the diesel in a "civil" Wrangler,
http://www.jeep.pt/wrangler-2-portas...a7%c3%a3o.aspx
It will have a Panther engine.
All Jeeps in Europe have a diesel version, now you might know it will not be available in 2012,
however this engine is somewhat new.
I doubt they will discontinue it next year...
Translate the page (link) and you will see they are selling diesel Wrangler's on the other side of the World.
They been selling 5000 Cherokee Diesel in the USA with CRD engines a year,
The CRD engine is old news, they have a Panther Diesel engine already.
The "slick" tires they used to come out from the factory were part of the problem
on the "tip over".
They just introduce a new diesel to the 2011 for the Wrangler,
I doubt they will "scratch it" for 2012...
You're from CA, I don't want to argue with you,
is like talking to a "Russian", we don't have that in CA, therefore it does not exist.
How little that vehicle has really "changed"...
Good info, I am well aware of the Euro Jeep lineup, most of my Family lives there. The Wrangler Unlimited was not available in 2006 with the 4.0. I am speaking specificallly of US spec cars. Any diesel will be from the Fiat group. I never suggested that Diesel Jeep product didnt exist in the US, I have a diesel Grand and a diesel Liberty. Its not an argument. You were erroneous in stating the wrangler in question from the OP is a rollover hazard. I also didnt say anything about Chrysler "scratching" any power plants, I said look for a prodution Wrangler with a diesel for 2012 model year. I looked in the order system just now. and there is no 2011 Diesel product (wrangler) listed as available for order.

all above is in line with what i've read and heard...
no longer a "rollover issue" with the longer wheelbase on the 4-door
no diesel in US market before 2012, if then
i think the "best buy" here is an 07 with 45-50K miles, 4WD auto, power locks/doors and hard top. there are a few like that within driving distance from me for $20K or less
thanks for the great info everyone
doughnut i wish you were closer...
Good luck with the new vehicle search. I'd really like to have one of those too one day, but not sure about power locks and windows on a wrangler.. But I guess with a 4 door and primary vehicle use, it makes sense.
