Default Star Island Shark Tournament Montauk - Great White brought in to the scales ? ? ?

Rumor around the docks is that someone brought a small Great White back to the scales on Friday and was written up on a number of violations.

Anybody know anything about it or got information ?

Just found this on another forum:

I fished the tournament....saw the biggest great white of my life, 20 feet behind the boat.... must have been 1500 lbs.
It is true that someone brought one in!! It was not a mistake on his part... he was announcing on the radio that he had caught a great white.... but all of us listening thought he had released it!! no one thought he was bringing it to the dock.... even at the captain's meeting it was re-iterated multiple times that this was illegal.
Not only was he arrested, his boat seized by the DEC, charged $25,000 fine but he was also charged with endangering the welfare of a minor because he brought the fish on the boat with his 6 year old on the boat!
I'm not sure what this guy was thinking or why he really didn't realize how serious the implications of his actions were...... but what about the others on his boat?? Wasn't he fishing with anyone who had the sense to clue him in??

His fathers day was a real bummer

I couldn't post the link, but it was 27east that said this story.

Not knowing what type of shark is would not be an excuse I am assuming.

Curious to see what happens with this one

You can eat them right? Maybe not? Just curious cause one of the commenters in the article said killing for the sake of killing is bad - but they certianally kill the makos?

yes their very similar in physiology. They are members of the same family. As for IDing the fish, a small white can look very similar to a porbeagle if you didn't know what your looking for.

obviously you have never been to a shark tournament, there are yo yo's that bring pups in to the scale to get weighed, then play dumb about how they couldn;t tell how long the fish was, they though it was bigger.

I like the Madfin tourns, catch and release, you want to man up and fish for a shark, de-hook the F'r too!!!!
