Default Acupuncture???

So...I want to maybe try acupuncture for chronic debilitating back pain. I'm sick of pain meds, I hate the frackin' things, but if I don't take them I am pretty much incapacitated.

I have had several folks swear by acupuncture. So, anyone with direct experience, good, bad, indifferent, PLEASE, fill me in. Tank ou vetty moch!

Sorry to hear about your pain. I have no first hand knowledge about acupuncture but here is another treatment that may interest you if the pins and needles do not help.
I find few people have even heard of it, it is called "Rolfing".
Some may say this is BS but when you are in pain (I've been there) you are willing to try just about anything.
I go to my chiro and that does it for me so I have not tried Rolfing but my sister and BIL have and they liked it.
Good luck.

Thanks 240, I'll research this. I have some idea about the fascia & the role it plays within the human body, but never heard of this technique.

Sorry can't help you with the acupuncture. I go to my chiro when I do something that puts me in pain. I was a non believer in them until we found Dr Ricci in Annapolis MD he takes care of a lot of people we know. You need to find the right chiropractor, they are not all the same.

I have been going to an acupucnturist for over 10 years, originally for a wheat allergy, but he has also helped with chronic back pain from L4- down. PM me with any questions.

I have had acupuncture treatments for bad knees, a back injury and bursitis in my shoulders. All I can say is that it worked extremely well for me. The needles themselves were barely felt and my Doc also uses Chinese herbs, etc.. I highly recommend it.

As for rolfing, I have had one treatment with that technique. I had pulled a muscle in my shoulder/neck area and was attending a class where I needed to pass a physical test that day. One of my instructors was a certified massage therapist and knew how to do rolfing. I must say, the treatment itself was painful at first but it worked and I was able to take and pass my test. My understanding of rolfing is that it is for soft tissue injuries not skeletal/orthopedic

My wife goes for cramping and she swears by it. You've got nothing to lose but some pain, give it a go.

Also if your ins. does not cover it try and find one that is a cert. chiropractor and have them do the treatments and bill creatively.

Thanks for the replies & info everyone I am going to start looking around for someone tomorrow! I am actually a bit hopeful that this may be the answer for me. Anything that will allow me to cut down or totally stop the meds would be a blessing for me! I'll post back with results when I have some....

I can see the benefits in that first photo. Not so much the second.

My wife had a severe ankle break several years ago. They put her ankle back together with nuts and bolts. After a year or so she started to have a lot of pain in the ankle. A friend suggested an acupuncturist. She went for about 7 treatments andhas not had a problem since her treatments. It worked for my wife and I would not hesitate in going myself.

Not wanting to be an ass here but have you tried exercise? If you "lay" off your back thinking it will help, you might find working the muscle group will help somewhat with the pain.

This is not something that is the result of a recent injury nor is it something that will get better. Without going into a whole explanation I will simply tell you that I am not supposed to do any "exercise" or "work the muscle group". This furthers my deteriorating condition and increases the severity and duration of my pain.

That's not to say I sit around not doing anything, I do what i can, and whatever i do makes me all the more miserable...it's a crappy way to have to go through the days & nights. BTW, "laying" and/or sitting "around' hurts too...

This is something that has been with me many years, I lived with the pain & other problems resulting from my condition. I never "layed off" my back when I was younger, nor did I take any pain medication until just a few years ago. See, I'm starting to ramble on here.

This is a sensitive subject for me, in the way that when someone makes a comment like you did it pisses me off. i know you didn't mean anything negative toward me, but I hate the fact that I am stuck with this. It makes every waking moment unpleasant, not just from the pain, but from not being able to do most of the things I used to. THAT is the worst part, and I ............sorry.

No, I can't do any exercise. I am looking forward to finding a competent acupuncturist. I have been getting a lot of positive feedback from people that have and still do have it done to relieve pain.

Glad you took it as I meant it, sorry that your condition is what it is. Only trying to help from my own experience.

Lets hope you can find a doctor that can help alleviate your pain.
