Default Online 401K broker tax question

Am I allowed to trade as freely as I would like my online rollover IRA account without tax implications?

In other words, there are no such thing as short term or long term capital gains on a 401K account, only the taxes you have to pay when you pull it out?

For a ROTH IRA I am allowed buy and sell as much as I would like with no tax implications correct?

Yes. As long as it is an IRA or Roth IRA there are no current tax implications.

True, but there are limitations as to what you can purchase inside of and IRA. Penny stocks and hedge funds are not allowed, along with others. Curious as to how the online brokers keep a handle on that. On a side note, what you gain, you gain and pay taxes on when it is removed from the IRA.....what you lose is what you lose and there is no tax deductions or offsets for that.

There are no tax implications until you withdraw the money.

However, you should check the trading rules. They might limit the number of trades to try and keep you from timing the market.

also remember when you buy then sell a stock you have to wait 3 day for those monies to clear and get redistributed back to your trading funds..

25k margin rule i believe doesnt apply when trading within a IRA..

This is correct. You can not pledge IRA assets as collateral. I know there are limitations on option transactions in an IRA, but I am not sure of any others. It is probably slightly different from custodian to custodian.

On another note, you should do some research on whether active trading really makes sense in the long run.
