I own a CWP for FL, but my holster does not have a buckle/strap that snaps to secure the pistol in the holster. I was told that in order to be complient in FL the holster must have some type of snap or buckle that goes over the butt of the gun and snaps in place.
jobowker, you would think they would be easy to find, I have been looking for a while and so far.... zip. I absolutely remember my CWP instructor saying something about a holdster with some type of strap/latch/buckle. driving me nuts!
I'm guessing it's based on this "(17) "Securely encased" means in a glove compartment, whether or not locked; snapped in a holster; in a gun case, whether or not locked; in a zippered gun case; or in a closed box or container which requires a lid or cover to be opened for access."
k9medic, so what your saying is that if you do not posses a CWP and simply need to transport your gun somewhere it has to be in a lockable case, ie: glove compartment or a holster with a snap! but if you already own a CWP you do not need a holster that snaps, or for that matter a holster at all???

Close... If it is going to be placed out of sight, then it does not need to be in a lockable case, but it does need to be in a container (a center console works too) BUT it has to be in a holster with a snap or some other type of securing device. A zippered bag is also acceptable as long as it's also placed in a container. Without a permit, you can actually take a gun and place it on your dashboard, so long as it is not concealed. The key word is concealed. If you have it in a holster and it's under your seat then it's concealed (and considered readily accessible.) There is no requirement for a firearm to be unloaded in this example.
Since you have a concealed weapons permit, you could stuff it in your pants pocket if you wanted to (not recommended without a holster though).
Your permit instructor should have covered this, but it appears that he didn't.

I just found out you can wear a side arm in Ca. if it's unloaded, and in sight, you need to have ammo in sight too, with no permit. Gun in holster on right, clip on left. I'd like to see a bank robber walk into a bank and see a whole line of customers, with guns on their sides.

Yea, like a bunch of people with unloaded guns would be a real deterrent to an well armed bank robber.......
