Default Bottum painting inflatables

At some point in the future I may get an inflatable that would remain in water months at a time. Can you bottom paint these things and if so any particular way of preparing the surface?

Also I've heard that if you cut off the oxygen supply no barnicales can grow. (pull a tarp under a small boat when not in use) Anyone know if this method really works?

I know they used to make bottom paint specifically for inflatables. I don't know if it is still around though. If it is, be sure and follow the instructions...

Good luck!

I was considering painting the bottom of a PVC water trampoline that gets a lot of barnacle growth but I would think the paint would crack when I deflate and take in at the end of the season.

There is a special bottom paint for soft bottom inflatables. It is special because it is soft and flexible to deal with the flexible bottom of the soft bottom inflatable. As for a rigid bottom inflatable we have found that you can use any low tech bottom paint available on both the hull and the tube. we use AquaGuard as it is easy.

I use regular water based bottom paint. It does crack a bit, but seems to do a good job at protecting against excessive growth.
