You guys will love this theory. How difficult would it have been for a software engineer (looking to damage Toyotas reputation) to have written into the software a random "glitch" that would suddenly cause Toyotas to accelerate uncontrollably and investigators would then not be able to reproduce the problem? Sounds like science fiction but why not ??
I should have titled this" Toyotas problems caused by Competitors??"

Actually there are several people currently in jail for causing deaths - running over pedestrians and hitting other vehicles - a few years back - the trend is now to use the Toyota recall defense and there are predictions that many if not all who alleged sudden acceleration as their defense at the time will finally be freed.
As far as the terrorists -I have heard of the Hiroshoma revenge theory (as well as the UAW/Obama theory) but anyway,... well we all know how sneaky those Japs can be....

See this is worse than if were happening in every single one, that could be fixed as any person with troubleshooting experience knows an intermittent problem is the hardest to solve . What would happen to Toyota if this were to continue for a few years. A small but significant enough number of cars continue to have the problem, toyota continues to come up with solutions and the entire time their customer confidence fades, their customers begin to look elsewhere and their used cars values decline in value.
How many of you guys believe that Toyota has the answer and is solving the problem permanently?
Its in the software........a random clock, every now and then Jackpot, just like a slot machine. What if every Toyota has the same bug, just waiting.....
Espionage is generally a game the big boys play. Toyota's recent problems have ALL fallen within GM's government cash bail out program. Sabotage I do not think is out of the question and I have often said so.
I am talking about the original software that was installed in all Toyotas
So you think ONE person was in charge of putting the software, that is different from car to car (even from engine to engine in each car), on EVERY Toyota, and NOONE else ever reviewed the logic routes?
In order for this to be true, this same person would have had to design EVERY electrical system for EVERY car (and all levels of trim for every car), as they all run on CAN bus, and use differing signals for different sensors, switches, realys and outputs, etc.
In other words...there ain't no way that could happen.

I do computer security for a living. Corporate espionage as well as state-funded espionage is as common place as... well no good analogy, but is everywhere and omnipresent anyway
