Default Going Camping this Wknd

My son & I are going camping this weekend in Central Florida, the weather will be nice and cold, just like I like it. Question: Whats the best way for a "BIG MAN" to get comfortable while sleeping. (Like how I used the Big Man reference instead of the politically incorrect terminology which is "FAT" )

Should I go with a cot, a roll, air matress, thermorest. Any advise would be appreciated.

It's hard to beat an air matress when sleeping on the ground.

If room for the gear is not a problem, I would go with a cot and an egg crate mattress on top of that. I use that in elk camp and it is almost as comfy as home. Of course, I am ten times as tired when I go to bed.

I've always used an air mattress. Your sleep will suck no matter what you are on. We have one of those airobeds. It's big but pretty comfortable.

Where are you camping?

Definately an air mattress when having to sleep on the ground.

Make sure you have a good airpump to pump it up though.

Take your sleeping bag if if you don't get in it , it makes a nice top cover.

Another 3 weeks and we are out on a weekend camp with the cub scouts.

Be careful with an air matress. With the cooler temps it will actually pull the heat out of your body. I usually go camping (ATV'ing and drinking) in Viking Estates near Kassimi Prarie. Since the ground is sand I would recommend a thick comforter with the bag on top and a pillow.

Nothing worse than waking up in the middle of the night with your teeth chattering.

Go with the Air mattress, get an Ambien from someone...
Could be worse.. here was my quarters a few weeks ago with the Scouts
We had a blast !!
If no air mattress, get a shorti pad to keep heat in...but you'll be fine at those temps...

Enjoy, make it fun and an adventure, not a pain in the butt...

I see to many parents take all the fun away from there kids... it's only a weekend....
Not saying thats you..just an example...

Boys laugh at me.. If we can drive in and the site is close, I bring it all, air mattress, fans, heaters,+ + + depending on the time of year, if we have to pack in,, It's Mr Smith you ok with out all your amenities...;-)

It doesn't sound like you are backpacking since you mentioned a cot. Sleeping up off the ground when it is cold will be miserable. A good pad on the ground will not allow the cold air to get under you and freeze you out. An air matress is not as bad as a cot. A good foam pad would be nice. Don't forget the hot chocolate!
