Somebody opened and Active X. Yer screwed. The virus is planted by the Chinese or Russian cork sucker that is selling the fix. It will not go away. I got bit last year. Tried all the fixes, went into the register and pulled out all the shat I thought was it, had my super duper geek friends try. No joy.

I paid up the 50 clams and went on with life.

be careful out there. It's a jungle.

First thing is to get rid of Norton. It's way too invasive and doesn't do much in the big picture. I always had luck with running malwarebytes anti-malware to find these infections. Good luck.

I had one similar. I use malware bytes anti malware (FREE) and it cleaned it up. It was hard on the particular one because the pop up windows kept coming up. I had to update anti malware and use it between pop ups.

Had that on my old machine. Total PITA but got rid of it by figuring out how it constantly manifests itself in the processes menu. Pretty much it would say it was running XYZ.exe not spelled like that just an example. First I locked down the firewall then put the XYZ.exe into a hard drive search and found the folders it was hiding in. Used Mcafee file shredder to remove it.

This took me a few hours to figure out, had to get pissed off enough with it to spend that much time fixing it. I sure as hell wouldnt give my credit card info to that thing though.

install malwarebytes from malwarebytes.org. update it. restart in safe mode, run the program, restart, boot up normally, run the program. (as administrator if you have many users) It will get it.

Is it labeled "Internet Security 2010" and use the same colors as AVG, yellow, blue, red, and green? That's what I had popping up all the time along with a lot more internally.

I ended taking it to "The Computer Handyman of Maryland" and he said it took over 5 hours to clean everything up.

Before I dumped Norton I had 2 viruses that slipped thru their system It cost me $99 to have them "remotely" clean them out. That is an option, but it's really creepy watching someone else operate your machine.

I got slammed on the Blackfin website. Someone calling themselves "Adminlady" sent me a P.M. I opened it and bam...I was toast. Had to buy a new operating system (windows 7) and a new anti-virus software. The amazing thing is that at first my machine (or the virus) wouldn't let me install the discs. Tough motherbugger...

I just had the same thing happen last week. Here is how I got rid of it. I opened windows under my other user name. This allowed me to download malware and then run it. Norton and AVG did not catch it but malware did and I quickly removed it. I'll never go to that porn site again!!!
Good luck.

I have fixed several computers infected by that virus. The ones that I caught early I was able to use windows restore to restore to a point before it was infected others I used a program called Hitman Pro that removed it. A couple were so bad I just formatted and reinstalled everything. Try the windows restore route first if that doesn't work download Hitman.

You can get Hitman here:

When starting up keep hitting F8 for safe mode.
I believe you will see a few safe mode options, pick the one with internet access.
You'll need that to go on line to download malwarebytes ant-imalware
No there should not be anything to buy if you went to the FREE one.
This is where I got it for my PC and a coworkers PC.

ctrl alt delete will bring up task manager
Highlight what you want to stop running, hit end task or right click for the drop down list and end task.

If all else fails power it off. Push and hold the power button till it shuts down. Yes I know that is not recommended.

Good luck,
Jeff

The first thing a lot of this winter's malware does is hit your registry and alter it so that all you see is a greyed out box where "End Task" should be. Only then does it pop up the ransom screen and start downloading other viruses.

Five and a half hours cleaning off one machine and we still had to reformat it. Nasty stuff.
