Thursday night/ evening we had two programs back to back on the Geography channel covering such a topic in depth. Although I don't smoke the stuff I found it quite interesting. In Canada it would seem, British Columbia (B. C.) is leading the way. To my surprise there is pot smoking parlors in most of the major cities in Canada now.
IMO, the government is stupid not to legalize the stuff......MONSTEROUS tax money to be made!

I suppose that with a diagnosis for the need for medical marijuana, one might be well on his/her way to being able to get a disability check (obviously the more one smokes, the more one is going to become disabled) ... add to that "free healthcare" that will pay for the pot.

Life is looking good in the good ole USA.

Legalize it and tax the bejeez out of it. Tobacco is selling for around $1.60 per lb. Sell reefer for $100 per oz ($1,600) per lb and use the money for schools and for LE to go after the hard stuff. Hell, alcohol is worse and that's what we're doing with it.

It's too easy to grow quality herb yourself. Along with that $1600/lb add a private grower permit with a 10 plant limit for $200 and your CIC could pay for his health care program.

We have quite a few marijuana "dispenseries" in our area and I have yet to see anyone that looks like a cancer patient entering or leaving one.

Most of the time they are teenage to early 20's black males with doo-wrags and their pants hanging down off their azz...

I guess one could say that they are going there to pick up the medical use stuff for their relative, but in my observation, that's a stretch.

Sure, there are folks that prefer to use the stuff over other medications and if they are truly suffering and in need of it, more power to them.

But I would be willing to bet cash that the majority of prescriptions are "paid for" and are used as a way for stoners to get high...

The situation in LA is completely bonkers; in many areas there are more little "club" stores than Starbucks and 7-11 combined. On the Venice Boardwalk (where else?) I saw girls dressed in marijuana bud costumes wave signs with arrows "The Doctor is In!" Once you have your license, or whatever it is called, you can grow a certain number of plants, which apparently varies by county. So, there are these co-op greenhouses, each plot has all the licenses tagged to a board. You get your dope for free or close to it, the rest goes to the "club". There are tales of club operators skimming $40,000 a week to keep the thing looking "non-profit". There has been some talk about clamping down, but I haven't heard of that taking place yet. There has also been a lot of talk by both parties of taxation, since the state is financially AFU, and it is reportedly its biggest cash crop.

Wow..."no prescription, no problem, There is an on-site doctor (one of the owners) that can conduct an immediate evaluation...". Not the brightest idea to do an interview on public TV stating that you are "working the system" at your hash house superstore. Makes you wonder how often they are sampling their own product.

If that is legal, way to go California.

Sad thing is, these folks are never going to "find what they are looking for" in "medical marijuana".

I would love to see weed legalized. I can't see any negatives. Alcohol is much worse in my opinion.

If it is all done locally grown, harvested, sold and smoked and the state approves. I wonder what the federal governments argument is going to be if they intend to stop it. How could the interstate commerce clause apply?

I think it'll be tough for them to make it legal and tax it after all the head-hunting/crusading that went on in the tobacco lawsuits because of the health issues. If the Gov made pot legal just to tax it I think big Tobacco would be all over that - can't have it both ways I guess.

One of my close friends (college roomate) recently opened a medical marijauna co-op in Cali. Other than a few "random" fire inspections and a little trouble from the city, he is doing great.
Accoding to him, it will be legalized across the country in the failry near future. Right now, hydroponic tomato farms are being built in states where legalization is near. Converting from tomatoes to marijuana is relatively simple I guess.
