Default AirBus 380 first scheduled flight arrives in New York this afternoon.

On Friday, Air France completed the first commercial flight for its new Airbus A380 from Paris to New York and marked the first transatlantic flight of the new aircraft. Onboard this double decker aircraft were 538 passengers, 2 captains and 22 flight attendants. The inaugural flight landed at JFK in New York at 1:20 p.m. EST to much fanfare. Air France is not the first to fly the new A380 but it is the first European Airline to do so and the first to cross the Atlantic as well. Currently, the aircraft is already in service by Singapore Airlines, Gulf Based Emirates and Qantas Airlines.

Only 2 pilots? That doesn't sound right. Maybe 2 captains and other first officers.

I wondered the same.

And joining the Mile High Club just got a hell of a lot easier!

Enclosed suites afford passengers in first class a high degree of privacy. The suites feature sliding doors, a personal mini-bar, wardrobe and a 23-inch wide viewing monitor. The seats recline to form a fully flat bed. A divider that separates adjoining suites can be lowered for passengers traveling together. Like business passengers, first-class fliers have access to an exclusive lounge.

I was sitting in a 737 on a taxiway at Sydney airport when the first ever commercial A380 flight by Singapore Airlines from Singapore to Sydney landed. It was awesome to see the thing come in and the whole of the airport stopped to watch. Although I was surprised that it isn't as big as I was thinking it was going to be.

Personally I don't see the direction of building over sized lavish dinosaurs. We should be moving in the direction of getting the people to their destinations faster!

As someone who buys over 10 flights between the US and Britain per year I have to disagree. Right now cost trumps speed.

I would not pay a couple of hundred bucks more to shave off an hour - or probably even two.

Plus this behemoth is less expensive to run, quieter, less CO2 etc.

The only advantage I could see to shaving off time to so that there could be same day travel between the US and the UK. But wasn't that the Concord model?

This is a F/C minisuite on Emirates Airlines. This minisuite is not exclusive to the A380, but has already been installed on A340s and B777s by Emirates. I have been involved in these suites over the last few years and they are as nice as they look and have more bells and whistles than you can imagine. However, I don't think I'll ever get to ride in one - round trip Dubai to LA is a mere $20K in these suites. And in case you're wondering - demand is exceeding supply.

The company I work for manufactures these super first class suites. They sell for crazy money.
