Default Cajun Fried Turkey

Popeye's has frozen Cajun Fried Turkeys. I found out about these only recently and the reviews sound awesome! I am getting ours tomorrow. It is definitely easier than frying one yourself!

But frying one yourself is so much fun. Gives the meatheads a place to hang out while everybody is inside talking about ... well talking about boring stuff

Oh yea. I fry a turkey weekly. It is just so much better that way and plus it give me a chance to diminish my moonshine stock! I usually fry one every SAT night.

YUM!

Sounds good to me!

I'm going to see if our local Popeye's has them and get one for Thanksgiving if they do.

I agree, it is a tradition at my house.

I cook two for our families and then one or two more for friends while I got the fryer going

I enjoy frying them also. Too easy to do and it comes out perfect every time. In fact, for several years, I was frying about 7 or 8 turkeys every Thanksgiving morning for friends and neighbors. After T Day we would fry chickens and Cornish hens. I even fried a pork roast.

For those who don't like frying, a friend passed this along to me and it works GREAT!
Buy the already seasoned turkey or season yourself. Put it in the oven at 500 degrees UNCOVERED for 30 minutes. Remove from the oven and reduce heat to 375. Let the oven cool down and cover the turkey and put it back in for about an hour. This is for about a 13-14 lb. bird. After an hour, check it. The ones with the flag should be popped or close. When it does, you have a juicy, tender, delicious meal. It saves about 3 hrs. cooking time and is perfect every time.

If you have a convection oven it works ALMOSt as good as frying.

Fried---frozen--thawed and serve!!!!!!!!!!!

Popeye's and Cajun should never ever be used in the same sentence.

Not sure about their fried turkey but their Cajun chicken biscuts are great. My buddy fries 7 or 8 every year for himself and friends which we did several times but now we do two smaller turkeys. One the old fashion way and one in the kettel webber grill. I slow cook the turkey on the grill using apple wood chips and it comes out great. The key is to brine the turkey over night for about 12 hours.

Good points.

IMO it's better to fry 2 smaller birds than one big one.

I brine mine also.

Not many people brine their birds but it really helps keep them moist and adds flavor. I do like them fried but the grilling/smoking one went over so well last year they have requested I do one again this year.

Briners of the world unite!

It's the absolute key. Put some allspice and cloves in your brine, makes it a little more holiday-like.

I also am torn this year between frying and a slow smoky job in the Green Egg.

Maybe one small bird of each.
