Default WW II in HD on Discover

Anyone watching ? What do you think?
They said that during Americas time in WW II we
lost 12,000 soldiers a MONTH! For 4 years!
Makes 8 years of war and under 10,000 dead almost
a miracle huh?!

DVR'ing the whole thing. Friggin amazing footage that helps us remember why this is the greatest nation on the face of this earth and to acknowledge those who saved it for us. Here's a hint; they weren't pointy-headed intellectual jerks who hated their nation. They saw a threat, faced up to it and won. My oh my how things have changed...

Caught alot of that. Could not stop watching.

Pisses me off the way we are treated around the world. Let those MF's kiss our ass. Thanks to us, Europe, Africa and Asia have what they have.

As for the number of casualties, the current war and WWII are hardly comparable on any level.

I do not (hope not) think that we will see another war where you have to throw a volume of bodies at the situation to prevail.

Best country in the world that is for sure.

I just wish O'Bama would watch something like that prior to bowing to the Japs.

I guess that he did not care about the backlash when he bowed to the "King" of one of those sand countries.

Think about the medical technology we have now. I bet that today's corpman is better outfitted than the field hospital in WWII.

It is an incredible series. Private Ryan was on the other night, talk about appreciating what that generation did for the world!

Could not have said it any better. All these piss ant politicians today would shit in their shorts and stay in the foxhole if they had to fight like those guys did. We owe everything to them, it makes me screaming angry what goes on in Washington today. ( ask my wife, i really do scream at the tv, i know damn well they can hear me ) Please do all those who died for this country a big favor in 2010. Vote all incumbants out of office! and if you don't want to do that at least get off your ass, leave every damn excuse behind you and VOTE!

Great series...been catching bits and pieces here and there. Need to just DVR all of them so I can watch start to finish. I had a hard time with LL Cool J doing some of the narration though...just tough associating his voice w/ WWII footage.

Glad to see others are watching it too. I am absolutely riveted. Sometimes I can't help but comment while watching. Other times, I am utterly speechless. And, for the most part, these soldiers were kids barely 20. and seeing it all in color just makes it so much more real for me.

I am appreciative of their sacrifice.

I cant watch enough of this show I love it! What is amazing to me is what these guys went thru pure hell....Then they come back to the States(if lucky enough) and make this a great country. Now you go to war see someone get killed. You come back state side see some Muslim shrink who is anti war anti govrt. to talk about and fix your emotional problems??? This was the greatest generation ever they made America what it was. If your lucky enough to know a WW2 vet go out of your way and do something for them.

I've had the pleasure of knowing a few dozen WW2 vets and they did not come home unscathed and jump right into making this country great. Many of them were damaged for life but the big difference was that everyone was in the same boat. Most of the men who lived on your blocked served and went thru the same hell so while they were sitting around on the porch playing cards and drinking Pabst they were talking and getting this load off their chest. Best informal therapy that could be had and something that is sorely missed by returning vets.

I too am mesmerized by this footage.

My father fought in the Guadalcanal campaign. There were 120 men in his company. Only 7 survived and he was the only one of the surviving 7 that was not wounded.

He then served in the National Guard for many years as First Sergeant.

I only served for 2 years; 1970 to 1972

It's a great show and makes me sick to my stomach that the country and ideals they sacrificed so much for is what it is today. Truly the greatest generation.

I think the series is fantastic and inspirational. I think our forefathers sacrificed heavily to make this country great.
I still think this country is great today.

The scene with the hundreds of rotting japanese corpses with maggots coming out of their eyes, nose, and mouth strewn everywhere along the waterline was very disturbing.

I heard an army colonel say the other day that the armed services would reject 75% of all available men between 18-35 years of age today. Let me re-state: 75% of available men in the U.S. either have drug, alcohol, weight, intelligence or crime rpoblems that would make them inelligible to serve in our country's armed forces. And the army, air force, navy or marines doesn't want to be a baby sitter. Sad and pathetic.

I think they're more worried about mommy and daddys connections and of course the lawyers....

I heard if you join the Marines now and you don't like it, you can quit

I remember this one guy in boot camp literally crying to the DI that he wanted to call home... He spent the night standing outside on a wash table screaming 'home' over and over again

True....I watched several of the episodes about the Revolutionary War....those people sacrificed greatly as well. Much of it is lost in what they teach as history nowadays.

Okay---

Kinda a student of history. I have been watching the show. The errors are frequent.

18,000 bombers took part in Operation Cobra---- not likely, 1800 more likely

Jap tanks at the battle of Bloody Ridge--- no account I have ever read has made that claim

Equipment errors, film being shown reported to be one battle, is actually film from a battle later in the war, some of the film is generic, I have seen it many times either in Victory at Sea, or other WW2 programs
