Default Motorola Droid

What's the story with this phone? Seems Verizon's done a terrible job at advertising this thing. They had lots of funky ads during the World Series, now, nearly nothing.

What's the scoop here?. Is this phone anything special? Verizon has it for $200.

My son has one and he likes it. How much do you think it cost to rent stealth bombers to drop them.

Does anyone know if you can upload Active Captain navigation software to it? They have another model called Omnia that has windows professional in it and it will run the software for backup navigation GPS.

As the developer of ActiveCaptain, I can answer this...

ActiveCaptain does not currently support the Droid. If there is enough demand for it, there will certainly be future support (for all Android devices). Right now, support for iPhone and Blackberry devices are requested much more and they are currently next after offline laptop support for Mac and Windows has been released.

The Droid which runs Google's latest release of the Android operating system (2.0) is a very cool phone with a lot of potential. Will it be an iPhone killer? I don't know. It has some great capabilities that compete favorably but it has a long way to go in gaining market share over the iPhone. One key will be how well developers embrace the operating system and how many quality apps become available for it. I develop iPhone apps and have my eye on Android as the 1st platform that I will likely port my apps to. I think it has a great future and having the power (and money) of Google behind it won't hurt.
