We always take pictures from our trips to Europe and frame them in B & W. I really like the look. I have the Nikon software you mentioned. I will take a look.

I was going to add that you could get a lot of mileage out of what you have by shooting RAW ( NEF in Nikon parlance) and applying some elemental stuff in Capture NX (or NX2 for that matter) as that software was made for NEF files....

BUT.... you will never get the best from your efforts without those f2.8 Nikor lenses. There will be images you just can't capture.
