Thats great! Let me say WELCOME!!! This is the organization that will keep our right with us one day! The 2nd adm. rights are slowly fading away and sooner than later the NRA will be one of our only allies!

Again Welcome and hope you enjoy!

Give it a month. You are going to recieve 'end of the world' requests for donations. Decide now how much you want to donate on a yearly basis then ignore all requests after you hit your limit.

Also consider joining your local gun rights group. There are many state based organizatons that are affiliated with the NRA.

Good luck!

Their tactics are a turnoff, just ignore them and do what you feel you should. I look at the big picture and realize that as annoying as they are, the good they do outweighs it. Welcome aboard.

Lifetime Member. Opted out of the magazine & requests for more $

They have a pretty good promo for family members to become life members. Will probably get one for my son now that he has started shooting

I dont hate when they send me money request. Hell the worse thing that happens is I say no. It never hurts to ask for money especially when they will still treat you great if you dont give anything.

It never hurts to ask for donations.

Oh and I have donated but never more than 100 bucks every year.

Again welcome to a great group!

I've been a member of the NRA for a few years now I'm happy to see that I'm not the only one DISGUSTED by their constant begging for more money.

I swear I get at least 3 and sometimes up to 8 pieces of junk mail from them PER WEEK asking for more money. I wouldn't mind if it was once or twice a month... but they BOMBARD me with this crap and it pisses me off!

I am just one member.... I imagine every member gets the same amount of snail mail junk I do. Can you imagine how much more money they would have to support the cause if they didn't waste so much on this junk mail?

I love my guns and I love the NRA and I'm happy to be a financial supporting member .... but for pete's sake it is time to STOP this nonsense!

I finally decided to stop sending money after donating about $1000 over the 2-3 years I was a member. My situation had changed and I had more responsibilities. Then I realised that my dues didn't even cover the postage so I did the best I could for them and stopped renewing my membership.

If they weren't constantly harrasing their membership in this fashion the group would be HUGE by now. I believe they once estimated something lime 100,000 new members a year but the total membership has stayed constant at about 3 million for the last 20 years. That means they've been turning off as many as they've gotten to join.

"The sky is falling. The end of the world is near." is a great fund raising cry but when the sky is there, and the world hasn't ended folks start to wonder. The next step is when you realise the ads are the same and they have just run through their cycle and updated the names and Bills.

I'm not going to go into the "2nd Amendment" rights issue because that would make this a political thread. We wouldn't want it sent to the Bilge.

What are the benefits (excluding issues regarding the 2nd amendment) of joining the NRA?

You get your choice of their magazines, which are informative. You can ask technical and other questions which they refuse to answer for non-members. You get detailed information on gun related legislation and voting patterns.

Plus, like any large fraternal/sororal organization, you can get knick-knacks and apparel with their logo.

Don't forget... with your paid membership you get the free NRA sticker to put on your car

I joined because I wanted to support the organization that works to make sure no one ever succeeds in taking away our right to bear arms. I joined because I thought my money was going to help pay for the high dollar lobbyists in there fighting the good fight to make sure I will never be considered a criminal because I own firearms. Also to assure that the list of firearms I'm free to purchase is not limited. What I did NOT expect is that my money would be used to fund EXCESSIVE marketing efforts aimed at grabbing every penny I have.

They really need to scale back on the marketing and begging and ramp up on the actual WORK at hand.

And the silence is deafening.

Why you think membership in the NRA is not needed is beyond anyone who believes in the 2nd amendment. I guess we need be glad that you don't post above the bilge often with your anti-second amendment crap.

I am member, simply for the reason that way too many politicians and sheriffs are anti-gun. The gun is not the problem, its lack of prosecution the illegal gun toting idiots.....
