Looks like money well spent. I don't follow baseball much but I love how people hate the Yanks because they are successful and use that money to stay successful.

it figures....

Winning last year, coming in second to the best team this year, having the same team back next year? Nope, it does not suck at all.

They use that money to stay successful?????.....
They spend the money to buy a championship.....do the math, look at the numbers.....any team that spent that much money each year SHOULD be sucessful....and I'd say old George has SUCESSFULLY FAILED over the past 9 years!
But this year he got it right.....Look what it cost him....lol! FAIL!

$380 million more than any other team.....if that's sucess.....i'm Bill Gates!

105 World Series

Yankees were in 40 of those

Yankees won 27 Championships

I was a Yankee fan for years but the last couple of years I have had a change of heart - rooted for the underdog.

That being said I live in a suburb of "HockeyTown" and the owner of the Red Wings is a very big spender. However they are no where near as successful as the most successful sports franchise in the history of mankind,

the New York Yankees

Wheres all the mets and cubs haters. Those elitist bastards! Second and Third Highest Payrolls. I hate it when you can buy your way into second place and next to last place, 23 games out of first place!

You people crack me up....It is expected though.

I suffered through WAY too many years of Horace Clark to worry about folks that think the Steinbrenners should pocket all their money and turn the yankees into the pirates.

salary cap...

MLB is a total joke without one. How can you guys find it interesting with the same few teams in contention each year?

Is it me or would paying these guys a MAX of 100k a year STILL be way to much? I mean really?

If you start to say they deserve it think about this. They make roughly per game what an average guy working 60 hours a week with 2 kids and all those bills.

It just doesn't make sense to me.

so what do they do with the rest of the revenue? let the owner's pocket it? if people werent so stupid to pay the outrageous prices on tickets, concessions, parking, merchandise, etc... then the salaries wouldnt be anywhere near what they are today. but we must have our entertainment, so we will continue to spend more on entertainment, than we do on food and clothing...

I dont go to professional sports games. Just will not do it. First of all they over charge you FOR EVERYTHING! $12 for a beer? Yea right.

The only games I will go to is collegiate sports. I own two sets of different season tickets and I also donate every year also.

I think it is almost illegal what they are doing up there in the "majors."

Marlins in last place, $180M off the mark. Didn't they buy a title a few years back? It's a joke.

I could care less. The more people that are home watching the games on Sunday, the fewer the people at the boat ramp.

Yes they did. They were upfront about it to. They put the word out that they wanted to buy a championship and they paid for it. Simple as that.

That does not sound like a sport to me?

All you baseball bashers, is it that you simply don't like the sport?
Don't like the Yankees?
Don't like the lack of Salary Cap?

Or

Do you just like the NFL better?

No matter what your preferrence, its OK, its your opinion, your entitled.

But to realistically compare, you need the numbers.

Here they are:

In the past 10 years, 13 of the NFL's 32 Teams made it to the Superbowl
In the same 10 years, 14 of the MLB's 30 Teams made it to the W.S.

The NFL has had 5 Champions in 8 years
The MLB has had 8 Champions in 9 years

The National League has had 9 Champions in 10 years
In the Past 2 years, 15 of MLB's Teams made the playoffs.

If you don't like the way the Yankees commanded the late nineties, then you probably hated the fact that the Patriots made it to the Superbowl 4 years out of 6.

I suspect a salary cap will not change most of your minds, you probably don't like the sport. It's ok.

Who do you think won the most championships BEFORE free agency in baseball?

Oh, BTW, these numbers are PRE 2009 Baseball playoffs. Just a disclaimer.
