Okay guys
While some of these Have Tragic endings, These toyotas running away at
high rates of speed, floor mat is what toyota is recalling, some say
mat is not issue may be electronic box ???
Please tell me WHY ?
THEY Did they not TURN IGNITION OFF ?
They DID NOT put the transmission in neutral ? Let the engine Blow ?
The Lexus crash had a 911 call asking for Help, Just dont know why people
dont think and use their Head,,, or am I just missing something
Agree. It's so sad, and it makes no sense. 4 people died in that 120mph crash, and the driver was a LEO, who for some reason, neither turned off the engine, or slipped the trans into neutral. I can't imagine what he was thinking.

In the case of the Family in the Lexus. The driver didnt know how to turn it off reports say. (hold down "start" button) He was a LEO as well. Burned the brakes out of the car trying to stop.

LEO = Law Enforcement Officer. And it doesn't necessarily mean they all use common sense. No offense to the many fine officers that do, but I've worked with hundreds of them; they're human too and make mistakes just like everyone else. Especially when in a panic.
Some very simple things are hard for too many people to understand.
Example... A pipe broke and the basement is flooding with water. Just shut off the water. This was a real call I was on with the FD. The house cleaners snapped off the feed line to the water closet.
Parents want their kids to be doctors and what nots. They themselves can't do simple things around the house so just how do you expect them to teach their young ones?
Take shop classes away from kids just to teach stupid. I hope those kids make enough money to pay me.

I've never been a racist. I don't like the white half either.

I HATE cars with start buttons! I'm getting them more and more when I travel for work and have to rent a car. Turning the car off with them is not rocket science... but still I hate them! What's wrong with a key? I LIKE my simple key! Give us back our damn keys!!!!!!!!!
Until you have actually panicked, it's hard to understand. When I learned to ride a bike (motorcycle) many years ago, I did in one of my first efforts. Fortunately, I was learning at an airport on an unused taxiway about one mile long. Basically, I went to slow down and then make a u-turn, and just couldn't remember (or whatever) how to throttle back (normal twist throttle.) Started the turn, hit brake gently, realized I couldn't make it, so went straight some more. WAs only going about forty, and went I'd say two or three blocks before I figured it out. I was down to thinking about turning off the key, but it took that long.
Just unreal....mind went totally into disconnect. Far as I can remember, that's the only time anything like that ever happened to me (and I've had some other worse scrapes without any panic at all) but it sort of made a believer out of me about some of this s**t.
Repeat of what happened to Audi some years ago. Ruined their sales in US for several years. Never pinpointed any cause. Next thing you know, Congress will fix it by mandating a "panic" button in every car.
when you turn an engine off in a modern car all the electronics and hydraulics loose power. I myself would have put the car in neutral. I did that when I was 16 and my fathers 396 Chevy carb return spring broke and I was at wot. You maintain control over the car.
As I have said before now that Toyota is the big dog the press will keep trying to knock it down just as they have done to others.
Engine won't blow up..most are programmed to only go 3000 rpms or so in neutral. I don't like this drive-by-wire throttle stuff..just doesn't "feel" right.
Until you have actually panicked, it's hard to understand.
Similar incident when I first got my drivers license. The throttle stuck when pulling out into traffic and when I realized it I immediately hit the brakes which promptly overheated and were useless. The light turned red and with cars stopping in front of me I had few options. I picked out a front yard, pointed the car in the right direction and then threw it in park.
Yes neutral should have been the first thing and then slow down but at 60 or 70 mph with no experience things happen very quickly. But the worst thing is to panic and freeze up.

If you look at the pedal design, the toyota design a single lever, not a two part - two lever design found on most US designed vehicles. That single level design is much more prone to getting wedged 'on'. Also, holding the off button for 3 seconds (over a football field at hwy speeds) is tough during a panic situation. Most people would keep pressing the button harder and more often hoping that the engine would shut off.
Plus unrepeatable 'glitches' that weren't caused by a floor mat.
It's going to be interesting to see how this plays out in the public's eyes.
I own the 2007 tundra. The floor mat has stuck the pedal 2 times on me. the first was an eye opener. i simple controled speed with the brake and was able to pop the pedal back up. After which i kept a eye on where my mat was on the floor. I have also managed to get the pedal to wedge its self to the floor with out the mat. Its just a bad design but nothing that should kill people. I think its just darwinism at work truthfully when you cant figure out how to shut a car off or throw it in neutral.
I have the 2010 Tundra. Not only is the floor mat cut around the pedal so it couldn't interfere if it wanted to, but the floor of the cab is also 3-d so to speak. Two levels. The mat would have to jump up to the higher level to interfere. Then, #3, the floor mat has 2 hooks to hold it in place. I think the design on my truck was well thought out, and I have no problem with it.
What's funny though is that on my wife's 2008 Camry, which is also under the recall, when she took it in for a warranty issue, when she got it back the floor mat on the driver's side was missing. She found it in the trunk. No way is Toyota going to let you drive off of their lot with those floor mats .
The 911 caller also said that the brakes did not work. In the ABC news video there was also a Camary and a Prius where the drivers survived. They both said that thy had applied the brakes and nothing happened. As for the "key", a Prius does not have a key. It only has an "on button". If the Camary and Lexus were also Hybrids, then they would not have keys either. Hmmm.
