In defense of Brandon Spikes, how many of you been in a similar situation? We (the fans) place these young men in positions where lines are blurred.
Heck, take a look at the "professionals" in the NFL. Many of them do the same thing, only they get away with it.
As I have said before, Ms. Brown certainly does not represent the University of Florida. She may in fact be intelligent, yet her lack of enunciation and grammar reveals a much lower standard.
I have been put in that situation 100's of times. Honestly the worst thing I ever saw was finger bending.
People can try to justify this as much as they want but the fact still stands is he tried to GOUGE someones eyes out. That is on a level by itself.

I cringe every time I see that video! What the heck were the voters in District 3 thinking when they elected this embarrassment? Oh wait... that's right.... district 3 is a gerrymandered district created for one reason only . I can't decide if I'm more shocked by the fact that a college handed this woman a Masters Degree.... or that she is the best the African-American community could come up with as their representative I guess I should just "gradulate" her on her achievements
Regarding Brandon Spikes..... I think he should be suspended for the rest of the season. I suspect that he was not since he's a Senior (I think) and expected to be a top NFL pick next year... in other words... I believe his punishment was made so as not to hurt his future. That and to not hurt UF's chances of another SEC Championship and BCS Championship.
I'm a big GATOR fan but the punishment is a JOKE and sends the wrong message to other players. I sincerely hope the public anger at the meager punishment makes some of the higher ups reconsider their decision and dole out a more appropriate punishment!

Even IF you have played ball for a division I football team or NFL team you would only experience the rivalry and pressure of this kind of game once or twice a season . This game spurs the kind of excitement like playing for the national championship. But I do support harsher penalties on all the players for violent infractions....

No matter who plays who both teams bring it. Simple as that. When you play at a certain level you play like this because if you don't there is someone else waiting to take your spot.
The fact that this is a rivalry does not mean that it is remotely OK to gouge someones eyes out.
Alright with that said im just going to sit back here and enjoy a cold one and see how many more time you or anyone else will try to say "oh I see how it could happen because it is such a huge rivalry."
Speaking of rivalry I have held Duke Basketball season tickets for over a decade so I understand what a rivalry is.

We have a bitter rivalry with LSU, but you don't see us doing that crap to each other.

I'm just messin with ya. Shame to see the Razorbacks get screwed like they did in Gainesville a few weeks ago. That officiating crew got suspended after that game,btw.
As for Spikes, shame it happened. Young people on adrenalin can do some stupid things. He embarrassed his team and his university.

This is exactly what I was referring to. He's young and made a poor, immature decision under pressure. It does not justify his actions, but it allows you to understand how it happens.
If a 40 year old surgeon did this during a pickup game of football, he would be held to a much higher standard since he should "know better."

The Florida-Georgia game has extremely high emotions attached to it these days. The stomping on the field, etc. I love the gators but did not like the bad sportmanship. I wish Spikes would have taken the higher road even if something was done a few plays earlier which i am certain it was. Football is one of the toughest sports in the business. Some players have class, others don't. This goes with anything in life. Hopefully, Spikes learns from this. As someone said before, even Brett Favre, who will probably go down as one of the best qb's of all time through a chop block a few weeks ago. People are human and make mistakes. Meyer handed down a punishment, like it or not. Everyone wants the Gators to lose so of course they will take a bunch of heat the rest of the year. Hopefully, we will play lights out against Alabama and finish this nice run off! Go Gators!
Again, I'm not trying to justify Spikes' actions, but this shows that he is the only one out there getting nasty. The first video is particularly interesting.

He should be banned from collegiate sports forever and should be kicked out of school.

If a regular student jumped on top of another regular student in an American History class and started trying to gouge the persons eyes out what do you think would happen? That kids ass would be kicked out of school so fast his head would spin. Oh and not to mention the criminal and legal repercussions that would happen to him.
All this rivalry talk is just crazy. The guy committed a wrong and he should pay. Simple as that.

Right.... Beacuse obviously the level of emotional intensity is the same in an American History class as it is in a football game infront of 85,000 people.

You are missing the point.... did you watch the video links ISLANDER put up? Clearly Georgia is JUST AS GUILTY of the SAME infraction you are crucifying Spikes for.
My only point here is that if you are going to be outraged at Spikes.... you should be equally outraged at the Georgia players who did the same thing
