I understand how weight lifting builds muscles, raises metabolism, and burns more calories. But, isn't that a contradiction to the regimen of the long distance runner, who has low body fat, and a very low resting metabolic rate.
Running is primarily a cardio work out along with swimming, bikeing, ect. raises the heart rate and good for the cardiovascular system. Resistance and weight training are what realy build muscle and raise your metabolic rate that's why it's important to have both in your regular work out regime. Look up Dr Wayne Wescotts research on physical fittness, good info on what works and what doesn't.
Cardio in the morning, whatever exercises you like. Light weight if you like but not necessary. If you lift, superset so you get more cardio while lifting.
Cut out all soda, including diet, all white bread, mayo, ranch dressing, etc. Make your lunch for work.
Thats all i got!! Good luck. Still working on it myself.
I think supersets are when you do all your lifting exercises back to back without resting in between, for example, you'd go from the bench press, to the curling bar, to the leg press, then repeat the cycle.
You really need to start eating breakfast man. It is very important to eat breakfast mainly because it gives your body a chance to burn the calories that you eat all throughout the day.

I think the breakfast thing is a myth. For some it may work, but I got into shape by hardly ever eating breakfast. I'm just not hungry in the mornings, so I don't eat. I'm much hungrier in the evenings, so I just save those breakfast calories for then. I've never really noticed where I feel better or have more energy when I breakfast. I also think it is a myth that you should eat less in the evenings. I say calories in versus calories out, regardless of when you eat them.

Guess I've been doing that. What are you supposed to do, have a beer and a smoke in between?

I guess I dont really understand how burning calories actually works. I don't eat breakfast just because I'm usually not hungry, and my mornings are nuts between kids & work... don't have any spare time. My Mach 5 trip down I-95 on the way to work is proof of that. My thought was that it was no big deal though... I'd just burn calories anyway. No calories going in with calories being burned till lunch time = good. Maybe not though.

The calorie issue has been confused by alot of mis-information. How many calories you burn is simply a matter of metabolism (most of which is genetic, but you can add muscle to increase the amount that you burn at rest) and physical activity. In the end, if you're burning more that you're taking in, you'll lose weight. To make it work, you simply have to put in the work to determine how much you need to consume each day to both maintain your weight and/or lose weight.
While I agree with the theory that if you eat less and exercise more you will lose weight, there are things you can do to burn FAT and not just lose weight. If you can find the book "Fit or Fat" it covers diet and using aerobic exercise to burn the fat while the weight and non aerobic exercise burn sugars. I can't remember the author.

keep doing sit ups - they wont burn the fat on your stomach BUT when your other things do burn that fat, the situps will build mroe defined abs to come through.
You just need to increase your metabolism and NOT increase your food consumption after doing so.
I found the solution. I have lost 8kg in 6 months. I am eating more, drinking regular coke, do not exercise more. I even do not feel tired.
Intrusive probes (both ends) said it is no cancer. No (more) apparent infection.
For 100 USD, I will indicate you the name of the restaurant in Vung Tau.
For 50 USD freight non included, I send you piece of my dried underwear to infuse in hot water.
See if you can find some of those old Susan Summers AB work out videos at a tag/yard/flea market sale, probably be able to find a Tony Little "Gazelle" for pennies on the dollar while your there too.
There really is more to it than calories in vs calories out. Increasing your metabolism is important. In a nutshell you should eat 5 smaller meals each day rather than 2 or 3 large ones, this allows your body to run more smoothly if you will, eliminating large fluctuations in sugar levels, etc. Good luck on your weight loss goals, there are vast amounts of imformation out there on the topic. Just remember the slower it comes off, the more likely it is to stay off!
change your exercise routines. the body adapts. keep doing the same thing and your progess slows. walk one day, run another. low rep, high weights then go to hi rep, low weights another day. on treadmill - can you change elevation? go at 0 degrees, go at 8 degrees.
eat breakfast. low sugar, protein.
eat less more often (aka 5 meals a day)
drink water. a lot of water. do not drink diet soda.

"I think i'll check out the website mentioned by fishinmaniac. But, from the feedback so far, I think I'm on the right track. Sounds like I need to lift heavier weights. I've been lifting lighter weights with more repititions."
