Random Quote: In the middle of difficulty, lies Opportunity
I received an "exclusive" invitation to receive a VISA Black Card. The benefits are: Limited Membership, 24 hour concierge service, exclusive rewards program, luxury gifts and a "patent pending" Carbon card.
What would you expect to pay for such an exclusive membership? Why a mere $495 annual fee. And, you get an APR of only 13.25%.
Are these people serious? Why would I pay $495/yr for a card that charges 13.25%? I have 2 cards that are free and are under 8%.
Has anyone else had this great "honor" bestowed upon them.
If it's not the same bank you already hold your card through, then it's just an attempt to rip you off legally. Call the service number on the back of your current card and ask them what they can do to match this offer for you, minus the premium expense.
I expect you'd have to pay the same fee and they will match your current interest rate. The benefits might be worth while though. Some of those cards offer companion plane tickets (2 for 1) which can pay for the fee pretty quick. If you are one of those folks who never runs a balance the interest rate is almost a non-issue.
Good luck!

Trust me. I know what Amex offers. He need to find out what Visa offers to se if it is worth while. Amex is the one they are trying to emulate. Let's see how close they ocme.

Got one, Visa Signature. Basically just replaced my platinum card with the same costs but maybe better benefits. Looks like it is up to the various banks to decide what to charge for them (just like the old Gold and Platinum cards), although it would not surprise me to see them jack the rates up before Feb.

Got my invitation in the mail. Whoopie, a 13.5% card with a $495 /yr. annual fee + another $195 for each additional cardholder. ONLY 1% of Americans qualify to receive this invitation. Wow. They must be trying to find the stupidest x% of the 1% with that deal. Circular filed.

I laugh at those "offers" and chuck them in the trash. What they hope is that they will get someone to apply for the card without reading the fine print.
Between my wife and I we have 4 major credit cards totaling just over 60 grand in credit lines with at least 50 grand available credit. And none are the high roller type cards like the black. I think one is a platnum. Those color designations are all bullshit anyway.
All of the cards have no annual fee and an interest rate between 3.9 and 12%. I can't imagine anyone signing an application for a CC with a $500.00 fee and a high interest rate.
We did have a few other cards where they jacked the interest up on us so we paid off whatever we owed and closed the account.
