These are all some very interesting replies....not saying they are wrong but......
The answer needs to be tailored to the user's ability and technical savvy. Based on the question and the way it was asked I gather that the poster is not very technically minded so advising Ubuntu, FORMAT, DELPART, etc are not useful answers.
Here is my advise:
1. A Toshiba Tecra is not worth the time it takes to revert to factory specs. It's worth $0 literally so throw it in the garbage.
2. What are you doing with it after you return it to factory specs? If it's leaving your possession then you need to have someone securely wipe the hard drive because all of your old, personal data can be recovered by a 3rd grader even if you "wipe it clean" and start over.
3. If you are intent on returning it to factory specs then you need the original disks that came with the laptop. Boot from the Toshiba recovery CD and follow the prompts. Easy.
4. After reverting, you will need about 5 days of your life to let Windows Update the last 6 years of updates for your laptop.
Bottom line, throw it in the recycling bin. It's really not worth the effort. |
