They are apparantly straped in so they gotta get there real quick for a turn over in the water. Or maybe its an automatic buckle release when it gets wet?

Years ago I did some work with one of the companies that builds those boats. They took me for a couple of testing runs and holy *&%$ those things rock! The accelerate like a car and turn like a slot car, its hard to believe you are in a boat. The co-pilot actually directs the pilot with hand signals as to where to turn next. Fortunatly my driver knew the course cuz I couldn't even begin to keep up much less anticipate the next turn.

If I remember correctly, they hold the races all over the place in empty fields basically. In most cases they make the course with bulldozers and fill with water. I never got to go to an actual event but would love to at some point.

They used to cover these races on Speed Channell or maybe Versus i think. They were incredible. The boats have fully tricked racing engines - 700+ ponies. 90 MPH straightaways...Hoppin Mad sport! Was invented in Australia or New Zealand. That water is only 2 or 3 feet deep.
