Mid-70's, Wednesday nights, Bill Graham would host a series called "Sounds of the City" at his Winterland auditorium in San Francisco. Admission: $2.00, always 5 bands played. One Wednesday night I show up, so does about 15 other people. I guess not may folks into seeing rock n roll mid-week. So the 5th band to take the stage that night was Kiss, their 1st album had just been released. A Kiss concert, played to an audience of about 20 people or so. Wow! The costumes, the big shoes, spitting blood, and a huge electric sign behind them that flashed K-I-S-S. I remember thinking to myself "this is stupid, but they are going to make $-millions doing it." And they did. |
