Thanks! sounds like a good idea if its as effective with alga , bacteria and whatever else the chlorine kills.

Our pool is regulated by DHEC(state environmental agency) since it is a "public pool". From what I understand the salt system is much easier to regulate, feels better on the skin and things like that.

My question is there really a lot of savings after initial installation.

We currently will spend around $2-3K on chemicals each season(opens May and closes 1 Oct)

The main reason we are looking at the salt system is for savings, as far as pool maint we are required to have a licenesed pool guy check our pool at least 3 days a week and he stays on top of chemicals

I have a small pool (7500 gallons) and did the conversion with a Goldline CG system. I bought it off of eBay for around $600 and it works like a charm. No more pool service once a week to keep the pool clean. Once I got the water stabilized and the salt level set, I have been good to go. The pool vac takes care of the rest.

Really nice part is that I take a water sample into Pinch A Penny and they test and print out a perscription to adjust the PH and disolved solids (hardness) at no cost.

thought I would update everyone on my progress
1. got the unit installed on sat - took a sh**load of salt! - maybe 8 big bags?
2. Installer did a terrible job of wiring - I cut all the ties and rewired per Intrepid/Seavee style..much better
3. turned it on sunday - by monday nite, flashing "low salt" and reading 2500ppm (low)
4. water tested wed - low salt - added 2 more bags - up to 2900 (good level)
5. due to the Fla summer heat and swimming daily, we set it at 80% production of chlorine

The pool is really clear - happy camper - total bill with tax as 1350.00

I'm a believer of buying what a good dealer sells me. My pool store has been with me for 4 years. I go with them as I don't want to do anything but pick up the phone and call "robert" and tell him to fix it, if something goes wrong. In this case, they recc'd the Aqua Rite unit:

I paid pretty much retail too, not going to shop online, hammer him back and forth..just not my style. But got a small discount and labor was fair at 2 hours.

my pool is 15 x 35...
