Random Quote: You can't save people from themselves
I just read of the untimely death of Pat Tillman, a man I hadn't heard of until reading this article on MSN. He was a standout defensive player for the Arizona football team, despite being less than 6 feet tall, and 200 lbs. Went on to play 4 years in the NFL for the Cardinals. During that time he passed on a 9 million dollar offer from the Rams OUT OF LOYALTY TO THE CARDINALS. After 9/11 he decided to walk away from a 3+ million contract with the Cardinals to enlist with his brother in the US Army. He was stationed with his Ranger unit in Afganistan since March of 2003, and was reported killed within the last 24 hours with no further details. He refused media coverage/interviews during this time. What a refreshing and tragic story. Refreshing because we are so familiar with the modern day athletes, who are interested in nothing but ME and MORE $$$$$. Tragic because he is recently married. This man is a true american hero.
I'll post to any thread regarding that true American Hero. He is the definition of American Hero!! God Bless him and the Tillman Family, including his brother Rich who I believe is still over there.
Have you EVER heard of a professional athlete, Rock star congesssional offspring, ot politicians offspring or even any important businessman's kids giving up their life - since WWII?????
This brings hope back to us slobs that democracy lives. This story brings tears to my eyes. I just hope G W Bush is listening. I fear that facism is afoot in America when I hear this crap about not being able to show flag drapped coffins comming home!!!! GWB should be ashamed of this policy. Let Liberty and Freedom Ring!!!!!!!
God Bless America

Hats off to the guy...he sure had guts and integrity.....just the kind of linebacker to knock the S#$#$ out of jerks like Keyshaun Johnson and Terrell Owens.
He could have stayed home and made million$ and had all the comfort and privelage known to man. But he chose to fight for his country in a desolate wasteland. A true American hero, no doubt. But lets not forget the others who have also sacrificed a "good life" back home to serve their country.
In recent times, the term 'hero' has lost its meaning due to overuse. Unfortunately, it has taken the death of a famous soldier to restore its meaning in a way that is now tangible to many. Our reaction to his death also says many things about us, not the least of which is 'what we value.' Many cannot understand why he did what he did -- others can. I like how Sen McCain said it -- "...Pat Tillman chose to serve a cause greater than his own self-interest...". Apparently, it was likely that Tillman would have done so for some time since he intended to become an officer.
For a while, (I hope a good long while) we'll never listen or watch some pampered, self-absorbed athlete complain about how rough his life is without thinking about Pat Tillman. It also reminds us that there once were others -- Bob Kalsu comes to mind, but also the dozens of baseball players and others who did so in another time.
