Default Blue Water Point Marina/Motel Oak Island NC

Anyone have any comments, good or bad, about Blue Water Point Marina/Motel at Oak Island? I’m planning on taking the other half down next month for a combination shakedown/ 20-something anniversary/get-away-from-the-kids weekend. BWP looks promising due to close proximity to Lockwood Folly inlet and the fact that they have a ramp, but I wouldn’t rule out staying at the Comfort Suites in Southport. Sure hope the Spanish will be running that weekend. Thanks for any advice.

I have never stayed in the hotel but it always seems to stay busy during the summer. The ramp is a good public double ramp but the parking is somewhat limited. They do have gas, ice, bait, and some other supplies. I think you can still rent a slip for short or long term. The surf is a very short walk from the hotel. The restaurant and bar is excellent. I eat there as often as I can and have never had a bad meal. The steam pot is my favorite although the grouper Oscar is to kill for and shrimp and steak Stroganoff is my wife's favorite.

I stayed there last weekend. It was nothing fancy, but the room was clean and there was nothing in the world wrong with it. I've stayed at plenty of other fishing motels that were much worse. The decor is still somewhat stuck in the 70/80's, but like I said, it was clean. Everyone there was very friendly, polite, and helpful. The only thing I noticed that presents a challenge is that there didn't appear to be a place to wash the boat up after pulling it out on the trailer. I rented a wet slip for a night so I would be able to wash it up there. I would have no reservations about staying there again.

Good luck,

Never stayed at the Motel so can't help there. But do follow the markers going out to the main channel from the marina, esp on low tide. Deviate much and you'll be aground.

uwharriediver, never stayed at the motel but the restaurant is pretty good.* Check with the marina and other boaters you see....there continue to be problems with Lockwood Folly Inlet...I haven't run it myself this year, maybe someone who has can add comments...
