Default Dangerous Compound in our Lakes and Bays - DHMO

What are some of the dangers associated with DHMO?
Each year, Dihydrogen Monoxide is a known causative component in many thousands of deaths and is a major contributor to millions upon millions of dollars in damage to property and the environment. Some of the known perils of Dihydrogen Monoxide are:

* Death due to accidental inhalation of DHMO, even in small quantities.
* Prolonged exposure to solid DHMO causes severe tissue damage.
* Excessive ingestion produces a number of unpleasant though not typically life-threatening side-effects.
* DHMO is a major component of acid rain.
* Gaseous DHMO can cause severe burns.
* Contributes to soil erosion.
* Leads to corrosion and oxidation of many metals.
* Contamination of electrical systems often causes short-circuits.
* Exposure decreases effectiveness of automobile brakes.
* Found in biopsies of pre-cancerous tumors and lesions.
* Often associated with killer cyclones in the U.S. Midwest and elsewhere.
* Thermal variations in DHMO are a suspected contributor to the El Nino weather effect.

Despite the danger, dihydrogen monoxide is often used:

* as an industrial solvent and coolant.
* in nuclear power plants.
* in the production of styrofoam.
* as a fire retardant.
* in many forms of cruel animal research.
* in the distribution of pesticides. Even after washing, produce remains contaminated by this chemical.
* as an additive in certain junk-foods and other food products.

I understand that a recent chemical composition analysis found DHMO in our city water supply! I've heard that if you're exposed to it, you can wash your hands for ten minutes and still not be rid of all the DHMO.

And please -- do all that you can to spread the word about DHMO.

I forwarded that link to our EH&S coordinator at work, and she got into such a panic, I thought she was going to put together a hazmat team! LMAOROF!

Only later that day did she realize it was April 1.

A friend of mine drank some bourbon mixed with DHMO, and got very intoxicated!
Real bad hangovers on that stuff.

OK, this post has been up for three days and with only a few replies can I safely assume
that I am NOT the only person on this forum who DOESN'T get it?

DMHO is another name for water. I wouldn't have gotten it from the posts alone. But I heard it on Rush Limbaugh one morning a number of weeks ago. There were a number of environmentalists that actually started campaigning against DMHO years ago before they realize that they had been duped. Of course it doesn't take much to get those folks going. Intelligence and logic is not their strong points.

Actually last summer there were problems with excessive ingestion.

Hikers in California were comming down with these unaccounted for symptoms - fatigue, loss of strength, etc. Well this was about the time all those no-calorie no food value flavored drinks came out. It turns out the only thing these hikers had in common was used of these no fat/no carb gatoraid type drinks and simply had superhydration and mineral loss.

All most all immediatley recovered with a single salt tablet.
