Default SCAM ALERT!!!! Check your Credit Card Statements!

I noticed an unauthorized payment on one of my credit cards today. I started doing a little research and this is a popular scam. Be aware of any payment titled "tlg", which stands for the company, Trilegiant, then it will be followed by a phrase. Mine was "Just for me". If you check the trilgiant website, http://www.trilegiant.com ....... you'll see the various bogus services that they offer.

The way it works is, they send these small checks through the mail, and when the check is cashed, you're automatically signed up for some type of crap service. Only problem, I NEVER cashed any sort of check, which leads me to the conclusion that the credit card company is complicit in the scam. There are scam alerts all over the web about this, and i've posted several complaints myself.

Here is what you have to do to correct the problem. If you see notice the charge, check the trilegiant website and call the applicable toll free number, have the service cancelled, then contact the credit card company and make sure the charge is removed.

Check those statements guys, this is getting ridiculous.

Thanks for heads up! I get those checks about once every week. Always shred 'em. Will check the cc statements.

If there is a problem, one letter to the cc company demanding they remove the charge, and one letter to the state atty general's office. Trilegiant can hear about it from them.

If it were to show up on one of my accounts I would simply dispute the charge. I'm not calling a vendor to get a bogus charge removed by them.

Yeah, I called the CC company and had it removed immediately. Once I contacted the vendor to complain, they informed me that I was "signed up" for this service. Since I didn't cash any of those checks, that can only mean that the credit card company is somehow involved. Some of the information that I found on the various consumer websites confirmed this. And the CC company, HSBC even confirmed it. So while I was on the phone with trilegiant, I made sure that this "membership" was terminated and got a confirmation number for the termination.

I also filed a complaint with the AG office.
