Keep that stuff over there until I can haul my keester out of here tomorrow!
Re the pic - taken at Mangoes in Marsh Harbor. Anchored off the marina, dinked all of us in and while aproaching the dock the heavens opened. Crew all high-tailed it into the bar leaving me to walk the dink along the dock where I could tie it up away from the steps (fixed dock). My scurvy deserting crew had a cold one aready on the table by the time I sloshed in!
My "first" ever trip to Chi-town was in early MARCH, 1967 - to go to Great Lakes, IL for BOOT CAMP with the Nav! Snow was alREADY piled up 15-20 FEET (via plows) when I arrived there! AWFUL - especially when they got us up EVERY day at 3:00A.M. to get in formation and march to the chow hall.
Other 3-4 trips over the years were for trade shows at McCormick Place - and staying at the Sheraton(?) on the Chicago River - THAT was NICE!
These trade shows were always between Thanksgiving and Christmas, and Michigan Ave. was BEAUTIFUL that time of year, with all the Christmas decorations, and, sometimes, SNOW!
Overall, I liked the place a lot, but stayed in the "nicer" areas of town.
Menzies,
I grew up just outsidethe Windy City. Blizard of 1979 was awesome, kind of like a frozen hurricane. You have to experiencethe worst in person to reallyappreciate the mundane.
I miss the weather, the cold, just not shoveling snow.
I grew up in Mt Prospect, which isa suburb of Chicago. I also had a paper route back in the the 79 blizzard. We were out a week for school, but I still had to deliver the Sun-Times, WSJ, Trib and the now defunct Chicago Daily news. Or should I say......my dad and I di
We moved up north herein 1982, and this weather is similar to Chicago's.......except for the heat in the summer. We hardly ever see 90 degree's. Maybe once or twice a summer.
I like the change of seasons.......but it is nice to go some place warm for a week or two in Feburary-ish.

I remember the 79 blizzard well. Our twin daughters were just a year old and I have a picture of myself holding one on each arm standing on the roof of my car on the road. The banks were about 2-3 ft over my head or roughly 12-13 feet tall. I also remember delivering stock tanks from the local hardware store to area dairy farms to hold their milk in until the milk hauler could get down their road. It snowed and blew like the devil for about 3-4 days without a let up. Now days the weather guys come unhinged at the promise of 6" of white stuff. So far this winter seems to be shaping up as one to remember. We have more snow on the ground right now than we usually do in mid February. Could be interesting.
Getting out last night was fun! Snow coming down sideways, There was snow inside the little Embraer I was in! Sat for an hour and a half getting de-iced and watching a line of about 15 snowploughs go up and down the runway before we took off!
Hats off to any communter that does that all winter long!
Hey, is that US senate seat still for sale? - Maybe I can cash in my wife's investments and purchase it. I can see it now -- the distingished Senator Seajay out kissing babies and accepting payola. That would be the life.
It's been raining all day here, would be over 12" of snow if it was up north. Where I live, 1" of snow shuts the town down. I got up for the superstorm in 1993, got a cup of coffee, and watched the idiotsslide their cars downmy street sideways. That was only 4-6", no one here is used ot any snow. Back home, 4-6" is just an irritation.
