Gunmen have targeted seven locations in south Mumbai, including two luxury hotels. A local government official says at least 78 people have been killed. One police official said his force was still engaged in a gunfight at the hotels. Hostages are being held, police told CNN-IBN. developing story
Very coordinated attacks, especially to target 8-10 locations over the coarse of a few hours. Not to mention they may be targeting Brittish and US citizens. Any claim of responsibility? First one that comes to mind is either Al-Qaeda. Although I heard it could be an Indian Mujadeen group that may have ties to Al-Qaeda. Also, why would you hold people hostage? Now your most likely stuck...I will have to keep it on CNN.
Looks like it was a beautiful hotel! Good thing you went there last week and not this week, how different things could have been.

MUMBAI, India (Reuters) - Eleven policemen were killed in a series of attacks by gunmen on sites in India's financial center, including luxury hotels full of foreign tourists, a top government official said on Thursday.
It was not clear if the 11 policemen were included among the 80 people already said to be killed in the attacks. At least 250 people were also wounded.
"Eleven of our policemen laid down their lives, including five good officers," said Vilasrao Deshmukh, chief minister of India's Maharashtra state.
"11 Policemen were killed including 5 good officers"- What were the other 6 clowns? Seems like a weird statement for a chief minister. You think he would say "there all good officers" or something on those lines. Or am I missing something?

Punjab News says, "5 good officers and the others were just grunts/ foot soldiers".
In other words Punjab News is saying the rebels scored more points for getting the 5 good officers then they did for the 6 grunts.

They also killed the head of the Indian terrorist task force
After re-reading the quote, I realized they probably have a police force modeled heavily off the military with both "officers" and "non-officers". Nonetheless the quote came off as sounding a bit odd.
Kingair- I, too, heard this, any idea how/where he was killed? Details seem to be sparse even 10 hours after the reports first came in.
I was supposed to be in Mumbai in 2 weeks to discuss sourcing components for one of my customers and doing source inspections. I had already cancelled this Monday due to other issues. Glad I did...
Reports are coming in saying that Pakistani inner intelligence sources may have some ties to this attack This is the same section that helped the Tailiban in the begining of the Afgani war Of course this is speculation at this point but it sure stinks of Al-Quaeda on the eve of Thanksgiving The precision of the attacks means training The only place that could go on unmolested in that region is Iran If it was in Pakistan it would have leaked through to the media at some point
I can't believe this is still going on after almost 36 hours. Any idea how many terrorists are part of this attack? India has activated their "commandos" but they don't seem to work to quick. There must be quite a few terrorists!
Commandos? Ever been to India? In all honest, with the exception of the innocents being killed by these terrorist scum, this will be a good thing long-term in that US corp execs will think twice about outsourcing to this third-world hell-hle, especially if they need to visit. Shithole would be a step up...

I agree. It is one of the few places on this planet I can actually say I never care to return to. There are easier and friendlier markets to do business with.
How many attacks like this have we had here since 9/11/01?
Who would be blamed unmercifully in the media if we had been attacked in that timeframe?
Who gets no credit for the security of the United States?
Alot of people take a lot of things for granted.
FREEDOM IS NOT FREE!! Especially for our enemies. Security is an ugly/necessary business best left up to our government without media interferance. Portions of our government that don't like our tactics should not get involved with that aspect and just stick to what they do best, balancing the budget. Oh, wait a minute, they can't do that right either. What is their purpose again?
Bamboo shoots shoved under fingernails and water boarding is none of my business. Just like my choice in weapons for home defense is none of their business. If I just want to knock them down I might use my .45 and aim for the shoulder, or I might go Dirty Harry on them if they want to "make my day".
CMP & KJS: Is India that bad? I have a friend that is in Indian and tells me how I need to go to India. From all the pictures and stories I have heard, it sounds awful. Even Mumbai looked like a dump and that is the "financial hub".
Heck I saw police officers guarding a blown up car with sticks...what the hell is a stick going to do to a terrorist with grenades? I'd imagine if this happened in the US, say NYC, there is no way 36 hours later, there still shooting at eachother! Or at least I hope not.

Without going into detail, and believe me I could, YES it is that bad. Although a couple of my colleagues have spent time in India, Pakistan, and Bangladesh. They tell me the latter two are worse yet. Not for me. I am getting too old for that crap.
