How the hell does Pious Monk come in new 3000 places ahead of everyone!!
I started the same place as you according to the tracks
I'm not sure I understand how this scoring works....but really its who crosses the finish first
How can a boat that just joined the race sail in front of me?
The game is designed in a way that late starters in the leg will be placed in the last 20% of the yachts. This is done so it still makes sense for people to join. Since there are over 25000 boats at the moment and they're very close to each other it can happen that a boat starts 2000 places in front of you while they're only 2 miles ahead of you in the water. This happened in the The Strait of Gibraltar.
What do we need to do, go between the rock and the buoy?
Nope, just leave the buoy to port (that's left to you military types).
You can be half way across the Indian ocean if you want - just leave thay bouy to port or you are DQ'd - which Banana Hammock (YachtJim) seems to be aiming for!
I think Banana is going to try and continue west of Mauritius and hang a right to try and squeeze in between the island and the buoy. Dangerous move based on the forecast.
I'm going to sleep.. hopefully my boat won't sink overnight! I am actually doing well at the moment and hopefully I can make the buoy before I wake up!

You probably wont be past the buoy until sometime Monday!

I think I'm looking pretty good. First rule of sailboat racing is you can't win if you do exactly what the people in front of you are doing.
Where do you guys find the other virtual racing, like the short races? I have been all over that site and can't find it.
Dude, trust me, you have an interesting 36 hours coming up!! It starts with a sub 2 knot wind in the next couple of hours! Then the wind gets up but it is in your face!
Here you go. I downloaded this from the VOR site. Damn good piece of gaming. Nearly as addicting as this online virtual race.

I can't find it on the site anymore either..I saw it when I signed up
I believe this is the same game, though

I see you're thinking outside the box, way outside the box. The crew got restless yesterday when I decided to get a little more east than the rest of the fleet. Now that we've turned the corner and are moving up with the wind just aft of beam they are happy again. We'll see I my gamble paid off soon enough.
I'm sure lucrative contracts for my navigational skills are soon to follow. Either that or I get pitched over the side for being a dufus.
On the downloadable game, when I tried to download it, I kept getting a fatal error warning. Anybody else have a problem downloading it?
I got over there in the first place because I didn't realize there was a buoy to go around. That was 3 days ago. Been trying to get back to the east ever since, got to keep the boat speed up regardless.
