Idiots at the Lake!
I'm not one to normally let it fly, but, damnit, I'm, pissed. A nice day on the lake and I have the benefit of dealing with a fat, ugly, stupid and obviously antisocial pathetic excuse for a woman. I don't knopw if she was a bull dyke or not, but if she wasn't she sure is missing one hell of an opportunity!!!
While waiting in line behind 7 other boaters to launch my boat at the Lake Murray Damn (near Columbia, SC) with another 5 or 6 waiting to load or launch behind me this "woman" tries to break in line! Not in a nice way either, more of a DEMANDING way! She was driving a diesel powered, dual rear tire white dodge pick-up with camper shell on back. Oh, and the thing was LOWERED! After I KINDLY told her "no" and that she needed to get in line along with everyone else, she jumps my case and then tries to squeeze into the line in front of me! What a royal B. this one was! I didn't let her of course and neither did anyone else she tried to pull this on.
Okay, I try to forget about this and have a good day. And we did, great weather and fun on the water. Then it was time to pull out. While waiting in yet another long line the guy (kid really) in front of me gets out of his truck and walks down to the dock to have a drink with his buds on the old poontoon they were partying on all day. Well the line moves forward (three boats worth) and frat boy isn't there to move his truck forward in the line. People behind me are beeping their horns and starting to yell. I get out and look around and don't see this idiot anywhere. I'm still getting yelled at to go around this guy. So I give in and go around. No sooner than I and another guy go around than does this drunken "brain fart" come running up the ramp and starts in on me!
What the H is going on? What happened to ramp curtesy? What happened to standard social behavior? Why don't I own a gun? Geesh!!!
They are everywhere....fished at Sharon Harris (NC) lake this weekend....happened to be a bass tournament day. Anyway...we got their about 8:30, well after all the tournament guys had left out. We were putting in..no lolly gagging either and the obviosly late "bassmaster" got out of his truck to say "are you guys done yet? " Well, I didn't have time to get mad, my really big fishing buddy told him this was a public ramp and anyone with enough sense to win the tournament left out an hour ago!! Then he offered to to put him in the lake ahead of his boat...of course the guy decided to back off at that point. But, after we were in, checking things and easing out of the no wake zone he unhooks his stuff, ties a line to the dock and proceeds to back up quickly and stomp on the brakes and fling his rig into the water (nevermind other sane people using the dock!)...leaves his boat in the way of the ramp as he parks his truck and then hops in and roars away in the no wake zone cutting off two other boaters with their families to get to his hot spot. What an A#$!! So anyway...don't feel bad these jerks are everywhere. Greg
A gun isn't the answer but recently saw a stun gun disguised as a cell phone that would have the mental brombies flopping around in the parking lot like a fish.
ah the good old days, hey do yourself a favor and expect it everytime your at the ramp. Then if things go smooth it's a bonus ps now i remember why i keep my boat in the water
Yep I ran into one of them this evening also. Guy with a Hotrod boat loads it on the and pulls halfway up the ramp and stops and starts cleaning everything
out and blocks all 3 ramps for anyone to get boats out and then gets pissed when 1 guy blows his horn and tells him he can not get to the ramp to load up
and go home.
Well the guy had a Smart ass remark until he realized about 6 other folks were getting out of vehicles and coming to "ask" him to move.

RE: Idiots at the Lake!
Really! For the record, the "gun" reference was a joke, but I still think an armed society is a polite one. Nonetheless, there are too many people too stupid, too inconsiderate, too self centered and absent of any capability whatsoever to recognize or comprehend anything beyond the single self serving inaccurate thought bouncing an otherwise empty and overly thick skull to even consider owning a boat much less causing an inconvience to the rest of us who are worthy!
Gun? Hmmmm I wonder how many dumb asses or smart guys there were in the old days of the wild west.... I know. Not that many people got shot compared to the Hollywood version but still I bet people weren't so quick to be stupid or arrogant...
Boat ramp craziness is exactly the reason that I now dry-store at the coast. While it limits the locations for boating / fishing, the boat ramp crap never ruins my day.

Richard hit the NAIL on the HEAD!!!!! There are, in deed, WAY too many of these A$$HOLES around and I really enjoy seeing them get put in their place!!!!!
There is one local ramp on the James River that has a county POLICEMAN there about 10hrs. a day on the weekends, and I've seen him "intervene" more than once - mainly to keep two people from getting into it about ramp courtesy!!!
Sometimes you have to TELL people the OBVIOUS - i.e. how freakin' STUPID they are!!! Oh, they KNOW it - it's just that they think nobody's gonna' REMIND them!!!!!
We don't seem to have much of a problem at the saltwater ramps east of here - most folks "realize" when they're holdin' up the show and move along with just a few "looks" from the crowd!!!
Sometimes, if you just say, "Need some help?" (KNOWING they DON'T!!!):grin;, they get the message!
Apply my golden 98/2 rule...... 98% are good guys and show courtesy on the ramps, and then along come the 2% a**holes. If I could ever put a time frame to the 2% guys I would just avoid them.......... but they seem to show up at irregular intervals.....................
Sorry to say Old Friend, get used to it. There are more of them, than they are of us. It ain't right, it ain't easy to deal with, but it's life. Only choice people like us have is to quit boating, shopping, hunting, or whatever activity you can think. The old saying goes one in every crowd. The only way to avoid it is to become a hermit.

Its not just at the lake,,,, try putting in at a coastal ramp on a warm weekend day. Trailers backed down the ramp waiting on a boat thats nowhere in sight, etc, etc, etc. For a real fun day, just take a picnic lunch to a ramp and watch for a few hours. If I had to trailer and use a ramp, I probably wouldn't own a boat. Been there, done that. Mine stays in the water.

Holy crap, I was there yesterday too, though obviously not at the same time as you.
I put in around 1pm, and things went well considering (considering the boat show was a couple of weeks back and a bunch of people have taken delivery of their new boats and were trying to launch them this weekend). Not saying that all new boat owners are knuckleheads, but you know who I am talking about...the people with no experience even backing in a trailer who decide the first weekend it gets above 80 is a good time to learn at the public ramp....
anyway, what got me was when I came back in. Around 5:00 or a little after I come back and there is a late model pontoon dead in the water. A nice guy in a flats boat is trying to push/pull him in. Well what gets me is the entire time the pontoons truck/trailer is blocking the ramp...truck and trailer already down there (there is a place they could have beached...or docked then brought the trailer down.
So finally after jamming up the ramp while they try to get the pontoon in the FREAKING TRUCK WON'T START. Out of gas and dead on the ramp. Someone also told me the problem w/ the pontoon was it was out of gas as well.
Anyhow, with the lake down they already closed one of the 3 ramps, bringing it to two, now pontoon guy is jamming up another making it one. I sat there for over 1.5 hours waiting on this circus. Add to that all the people trying to get their boats out on one ramp, taking for EVER.
But hey, its all good...the stripers are back down and the bite is on.
It happens every year at this time. Your best bet is to launch between sunrise (the fishermen are usually pretty proficient) and 10 am (before the suntan crowd arrives).
Pull out either 2-3:30 or wait till just after sundown.
10am to 1pm and the hour and a half prior to sunset are usually the worst there.
Sundays it generally stays kinda hectic until about 2:30 due to the church crowd launching late.
But by far the worst time is the 1.5 hours prior to sundown...which I walked right into the middle of yesterday
I also agree with what WC266 said - sometimes it's WORTH the wait to do a little "boater watching"!
Luckily, where I launch most of the time, there is a pretty good amount of room to manuever the car/boat around and it's pretty clear "who's next"!
If it's crowded when I come back in, I just back up and "putt" around the pretty good-sized creek area, take a few PICS , and try again. Most of the time it's between 3-4P.M. when I get back in - the EARLY folks have gone and the LATE ones are still out! Works good with a 1-1/2hr. drive back and cleaning up the boat, it's JUST about dark by the time the cover goes on.
For the record, I am a newbie, and I slip my boat....so I won't keep any of you guys waiting :}
This past weekend I watched a dad and his grown son set off at Chadwick Island Marina in NJ. I was in awe...like a ballet (or a good Bruce concert). They unloaded a 25' Grady...set her in, got the car parked, and then off....all within 5 minutes tops.

RE: Idiots at the Lake!
Fishon, I just found a nice key mark on my NEW truck door!! $(&*$)*&TTY)$*&@_(*&#)*&^%$_(*#&@_(*&$^_(&*%^_#(*+ @)(*#)$( and few things I can't say in public. I bet ya' that fat ugly troll did it! DAMN! ARGGHHHH
Yeah, it was a bit aggravating there yesterday. I put in at around 2 and pulled out about 4:30. I must have just missed you and the pontoon. Look for me out there. It's a white Triton with t-top and light blue sides.
WC266, I used to love spending a little time at the Southport Small Boat Harbor ramp watching the people load boats. It was better than color TV. I particularly remember a time when two couples had been out sailing on the river and were coming back in to the ramp. The two wives had gone up on the front deck out of sight of the husbands and were doing a little topless sunbathing. The only problem was that they fell asleep. The husbands did not know what the wives had done and just brought the boat right on up to the dock. The wives woke up when the sailboat bumped the pier. There was a mad scramble punctuated by a few colorful expressions. There was a nice crown around the dock because a passing boater had alerted us to the situation over his radio while the sailboat was still in the waterway. You never know what you will see at the ramp.
