Nothing is better for learning a language than 'total immersion' into that language. Go spend a weekend in California.
I have talked to folks that live/work in different foreign countries. The company pays for on-going language classes, but most folks either pre-study or argument their classes with Rosetta Stone. Newbies try other brands but eventually come around to RS.
Kingair is right. It helps having some basic skills in your interested language. I've gone through several lessons in the Spanish, German and Arabic lessons and it was extremely helpful. Again, it was free!! Then, as Eyeball mentioned, go immerse yourself in L.A., Miami or anywhere along the U.S. / Mexican border. Buena suerte!!
I'm very interested in exactly how it works. The commercials leave much to ponder. How do you learn a language at 30, 40 50, etc years old "like you did as a child"?
Booker - 10/23/2008 6:02 PM S-O-C-K-S Anyone remember that? I'm very interested in exactly how it works. The commercials leave much to ponder. How do you learn a language at 30, 40 50, etc years old "like you did as a child"
I have it for Korean.
They flash you pictures and tell you the word int he language you want to learn. We bought it hoping the kids would learn some Korean, but they lost interest very fast. Seeing a buncha pictures and repeating the same thing over and over again does get a bit boring...

I travel a lot, and there always seems to be RS booths in the airports, with their folks working the crowds. There are typically a couple French, German, Italian, ect... boxes sitting out on display, but by a long shot, most boxes are Spanish. By the way, only a couple English as well. I suppose they are trying to capitalize on the American public in "assisting" them on learning how to understand the illegals who are getting ever more present in society. My question is, if they want an exercise in Capitalism, why don't they set up these booths along our southern borders, with lots of ENGLISH boxes for sale? At least they wouldn't be selling out our country just to make a few bucks.
