I have been thinking of getting rid of the Titan and going with a smaller toyata tacoma 4wd. Anyone have one? Likes ?dislikes? milage what are yall gettin? 6spd man or auto?
thx in advance
I don't have one but am likewise interested. There is the problem of the rusting of the frames....I haven't seen a document yet explaining whether the process has been improved. I've only seen claims that it only involves frames before 2000 or so --- but that may be wishful thinking.
I had the 2006 Tacoma 4dr Crew Cab. I think the rusted frame issue does not apply to the redesigned Tacs.
Pluses:
Great looking.
OK Fuel economy. Just OK.
Tight frame and fit.
Minuses:
The OEM tires are junk, and bubble within a month of being driven.
If you are 6ft or taller, the driver seat doesn't go back far enough for comfort. Try it out.
Mine had many trips back to the dealer to fix small things, which are probably worked out now.
All in all, I own a Silverado now and love it and will keep it forever. But if my choice were between the Ford Ranger, Chevy Colorado, and the Tacoma, the Tacoma would win out.
PS I have been accuse of being anti Toyota, and have bad things to say about the Tundra.
I had an 04 4 door V6 4WD. Fit and finish were great. Thats it. I bought a larger boat in 05 and traded the Tacoma in for a Tundra. Believe or not I get the same it not better milage with the V8 Tundra. 17MGP city and 23-24MPG highway according to my scan gauge. When towing my boat, 2800lbs total I get 14MPG. I did add a K&N air filter to each which improved milage by 2MPG. I love my 05 Tundra and I'm planning on keeping it for a while.

I have owned 4 tacomas and other vehicles as well. I have had NO rust problems with mine here if FL.
If you are talking about the new style Tacoma, 4 door 4x4...gas mileage is not good. You will be lucky to get 20. The 6 speeds are even worse. The rest of the vhicle IMO are very good. Plenty of power, good fit and finish, very comfortable seats, I am at least 6'2" and perfectly comfortable in mine. In fact, I dare say it has the most leg room of any vehicle I have owned. They tow well - but not huge loads...I towed a 7,000 lb tractor, it did it, but not well. My 20' center console though, gets around easily. I have BEATEN all of my Tacomas(I mean cathing air repeatedly, mud, etc) and have had no major failure in any of them. Great looking vehicles. Resale on 4x4 tacomas is as good as it gets. Bought my last one for 22,500 used, sold it 2 years later for 22,000 in a bidding war. The one before that I bought for 10,000 used and sold for 14,000 2 years later!!!! I am now driving a 4runner 4x4 v-8...the vehicle is more luxurious, but does not look as nice IMO.
Did I say they are great looking trucks? My last one:
I have a 2000 Tacoma 4 X 4 4cyl. It's the last year of the "bad frame" Tacomas (1995-2000). Fortunately mine seems to be in fine shape. They're not all bad - just the ones that have had signifiacnt salt corrosion - mostly in the NE. I bought it used this past June - 77k miles. The truck is in mint condition - just perfect - people think it's brand new. Wanted to 4 cyl extended cab for mileage purposes - it does have the larger of the two 4 cyl options available that year. I tow my boat 2 times per year or so for 2-3 miles - in and out of the wet slip, so towing is not a huge deal. I added and aftermarket (Hidden Hitch) hitch and the truck is rated for 3500 lbs, which is more than enough for me. I'm getting about 22 mpg in two wheel drive, with pretty big tires. Love the truck. My two cents -
I had one, loved it. Bought a Silverado to tow the boat with and what a POS that has turned out to be. Everything is broken excpet the engine. When it dies, I'll be back to a Tacoma.

I have been thinking about the V6 Prerunner Double Cab longbed for a while, but I don't think the overall gas mileage would be significantly different and there's nothing wrong with my Titan . . .
I have an '05 Tacoma X-cab, 4.0L V6, 6 speed, 4x4 with the TRD Sport package. My daily commute is 55 miles and 48 of those miles are interstate. I routinely get about 16.5mpg, but I do drive with a heavy foot. Some of the things I like about the Taco are: pretty good acceleration for a small truck, a comfortable interior, a fair amount of leg room for the driver, a pretty nice factory stereo, storage compartments in the bed, the adjustable cleats located on the bed rails are good for light loads, and a good ride for a 4x4 truck. Some of my dislikes are: FUEL MILEAGE, plastic bed, adustable cleats are not good for heavy loads or a lot of tension on ratchet straps, the pedal positioning could have been improved a lot, raindrops hitting the roof at highway speeds are very loud in the cab, and the tailgate is also plastic and I wouldn't put anything heavy on it, such as an ATV. I bought this truck in a hurry because my old truck was destroyed. If I had to do it over again, I would definately get a full size truck with a V8. The gas mileage is comporable if not better in some cases.
Best truck ever made. I had an 02 with 135k miles on it. Had oversize mud tires on it so gas mileage wasnt great but that truck went through hell and back and never once broke. Even pulled my boat with it for 2 years with never a hiccup(4 banger & way overweight). Sold it with the original clutch in it. I have an 05 f150 crew cab now but i definitely miss the tacoma.

I know you asked about the tacoma, but have you looked at the Nissan Frontier? I have talked to two people lately that have the crew cab with the V6 and they said they were getting over twenty in all round driving. Kinda hard to believe but hopefully it is true.
